Life is better with Cupcakes

Isn't that the truth??!!  Today I made a whimsical birthday card using the Color Challenge from SCS (CC389 - Bravo Burgundy, Regal Rose, and Summer Starfruit).  I used a new die I purchased from All That Scraps and a sweet (pun intended!) saying to go with it from Amy R Sentiments.  Hope you like.

"Happy Birthday, Cupcake"

Stamp:  Sweet Sentiments (Amy R)
Paper:  Whisper White, Bravo Burgundy polka-dot DP, Bravo Burgundy, Summer Starfruit, Regal Rose (SU!); Heavy White (Neenah)
Ink:  Bravo Burgundy (SU!)
Accessories & Tools:  Big Shot, Sweet Treats Set and Candle Border dies (C.C. Designs), D'Vine Swirl embossing folder (Cuttlebug), glue, and dimensionals

I cut out three of the cupcake papers (two white and one burgundy polka-dot), glued them together with the polka-dot paper on top.

I cut out three of the icing layer (two white and one Regal Rose).  I ran the Regal Rose layer through the Big Shot with the embossing folder before gluing the layers together with the embossed on top.  I cut out the squiggle of icing from Summer Starfruit cardstock and glued it onto the icing die.

I cut out two candle borders (one from Summer Starfruit; one from Bravo Burgundery cardstocks).  I choose one of the candles and cut it away from the rest of the border.  I cut the "flame" off of the Burgundy layer and glued it on top of the Summer Starfruit candle.  I glued the candle to the back of the icing layer.

I cut my main panel to size (5 1/8" x 3 7/8"), stamped the sentiment in Bravo Burgundy ink and mounted the cupcake layers, popping them up with dimensionals to add depth.

I mounted the main panel to the heavy white cardbase, popping it up with dimensionals.

On the inside of the card, I stamped "happy birthday" in Bravo Burgundy ink and added a two-layer candle (as above) to the bottom corner for interest.

Fun and easy card to make!

Many of you have been asking what I do with all the cards that I make.  I am a prolific card-maker so they do stack up quickly.  :)

I give many to friends and family as gifts ... but I also donate many of my cards.  I have donated to hospitals, senior homes, and community centers.

Today I am shipping off 40+ cards to B.C. Children's Hospital.  They have a program there called "Send a Smile 4 Kids (Canada)" where they collect uplifting, hand-made cards for nurses, staff and families to give to the patients to celebrate their birthdays, achievements and going home.

You may have noticed that I have been making more whimsical-type cards lately, and that's because I had this charity in mind when making my cards.  Send a Smile has a call out for Christmas cards, so I will start working on those soon.

If you'd like to donate to this worthy cause, please click on the link above to find out all the details.  Thank you!!

This is sweet! There are so many worthwhile charities out there to send cards to. It's so much more fun when we can share.

Your cards are so appreciated Loll! I'm so grateful that you support Send A Smile 4 Kids (Canada) with your talent! And thank you so much for mentioning the program here on your blog. It is through the generosity and kindness of crafters like you that SAS4K is able to continue putting smiles on the faces of hospitalized kids!
Smiles & thanks,
