Angled Butterflies

Hi everyone.  Today I'm sharing a twofer.  I created two cards using one piece of watercolour paper inked with paper towels* that I used to mop up leftover ink from another project.

I started by using temporary tape to tape together my coloured piece along with a piece of white card stock.  I cut them together at the same time to create two angled panels.

The white angled pieced was inlaid with the coloured outside piece to create a flat card front.  Then I cut a second white angled piece a little larger and popped it up over top to create the card above.

I stamped the butterfly twice with black archival ink and coloured with my zigs. Used one on each card.

For my second card, I used the angled watercolour piece over a white card base. Happy to get two cards from one watercolour panel. :)  I kept everything else the same for the two cards.  Here's the second one ...

* To create my watercoloured panel, I used paper towel to mop up leftover ink from another project (blue and green distress inks).  I dried the paper towel and kept it until I was ready to make this background.  I laid the piece over top of Hot Press Watercolour paper, misted with water, and then pressed randomly with my fingers to transfer the ink (and pattern from the quilted paper towel) onto my panel.

I'm adding these cards to the CAS Watercolour July Challenge - Butterfly.

I hope you'll come play along!

Love both versions, but a slight preference for the first one. I need to do some more of those paper towel backgrounds (just not sure where I put the paper towel pieces when I cleaned up my craft room for you to see it during our retreat!).

What a fabulous pair of cards Loll - love how you 'waste not, want not', and to get a twofer from wiping up ink with a paper towel, well that is certainly thrifty :-).

ANOTHER great technique, Lolly! You are the consummate teacher! I've used the actual paper towel before, but didn't realize I could transfer the color and texture to a card base! Genius!! Hugs, Dolly

I just pulled my paper towels out of the wastebasket. I hope they work as well with cold press watercolor paper because I don't have any hot press. I know it's more absorbent but I'll try anything once. I just hope it comes out as lovely as your card.

Nope, didn't work. :(
