Special Birthday Card

Hi everyone.  Today I'm sharing a birthday card I made for my sweet Mom.  Her birthday is in a couple of weeks and she'll be turning 89.  All of my family is planning on heading to her place for a special birthday dinner. :)

This is also a saved card.  I wanted to share a little about how this design came about.  Recently I saw Ishani watercolour on coloured card stock.  Beautiful, right??!!  I had never tried that so I decided to give it a go and heat embossed the flower image in silver onto pink card stock.  I happily coloured away until I noticed that some of the silver embossing had made a bit of a mess at the tip of one of the flowers.  I couldn't let it go to waste, so fussy-cut the image.  It's a shame that you can't see the soft pink background, but it looked good before I cut it all away. :)

Coloured with zigs and very little water.  Cut the frame and heat embossed the sentiment.  Then attached the fussy-cut flowers to the inside of the frame, taping down the stem and the one flowers that overlaps the outside of the frame.  Added pop dots to the backs of the rest of the flower and a few leaves.  Dry embossed a sweet criss-cross pattern (folder was a gift from my dear friend Bonnie), and then popped the frame and flower on top.  Love how it turned out ... and I know my mom will love it too.

Here's a close-up so hopefully you can see the dry embossed background behind the frame ...

Since this is a watercoloured birthday card, I'm adding to the CAS Watercolour January Challenge - Birthday.  Still a few days left to play along.  Challenge closes on Jan. 24th at midnight (PST).

Edited to add:  Just checked out the new Time Out (#101) challenge and see that this card is perfect. :)  Adding it to the gallery!

Oh Loll, this is so beautiful! I adore your coloring with the Zigs and the silver embossed edges. I know it didn't work out quite like you thought, but I adore this cut out. The embossed background adds just the right touch of texture for the lovely flowers. The sentiment and framing...it works together to create a little masterpiece. I am sure your mom will be thrilled with this beauty. Hope she has a most wonderful birthday day! :)

I'm glad you tried it and it worked well to watercolor on colored cardstock, Loll. I'd be afraid it would get too wet but since you said little water was used I may give it a try. It sure looks beautiful and I know your Mom with ooh and aah over it.

WOW! Not only is your water coloring so perfectly done but so is that fussy cutting! Look at that stem! Can't imagine cutting that without having it fall apart or rip in half. Love the dimension you created but doing all that work. This is gorgeous, Loll and I'm sure your mom will love it.

Great save of your flowers, but I'd have loved to see them with the paler pink around them as I loved Ishani's card. Wonderful vibrant colours and great shading. I love the subtle embossing folder background and the way the flowers come out of the opening on the top layer. Your Mom will be thrilled with it. Have a wonderful family birthday celebration!

My day has probably only 12 hours, because I still have time for everything. Commenting in English is a bit time-consuming for me, so when I sit down to him, I catch up. Yes, I agree with the previous speakers, this card is stunning! Each element gives the impression of carefully thought out. I love how a flower rests on a frame, I love embossed background that adds elegance. Silver stamping so gently glitters among the color. This is such a beautiful card, I'm sure it's the most beautiful card that your mother received.
Hugs,
BożenA
