Mom's Pansy

My mother-in-law's favorite flower is the pansy and I wanted to make her a pansy card for Mother's Day this year.  I found a great tutorial by Dawn Olchefske.  I didn't follow her instructions exactly, but used her general instructions.  The difference from Dawn was using watercolor paper and using a technique I learned in my tole painting classes years ago on how to add the shaded purple to the edges of the petals.  I think my MIL will LOVE this card!  Hope you like too.

"Mom's Pansy"

Stamps:  Clear stamps:  vine, Happy Mother's Day (sentiment); Playful pieces (small flower) (SU!)
Paper:  Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive, Whisper White (SU!); Arches 140lb. cold press "Natural White" watercolor paper
Ink:  Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive, So Saffron; Re-inkers: Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive, So Saffron; Rich Razzleberry Stampin' Write marker
Accessories & Tools:  Butterfly punch, Two-Step Bird punch, paint brushes, wax paper, Nestabilities Label Ten and Ovals (Spellbinders), Sizzix Square Lattice embossing folder, Big Shot, six white half pearls, sticky strips, glue and dimensionals

I ran the 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" piece of Rich Razzleberry through my Big Shot with the Square Lattice embossing folder.  This folder has a lot of texture, so the paper actually comes out a different size.  The width is the same, but the length is about 1/8" shorter.  So I trimmed the width by 1/8" to leave an even border and mounted it on the card base using sticky strips.

I used the Nestabilities Label Ten and cut out the Old Olive frame (used the 2nd and 3rd largest Label Ten dies inside of each other).  I sponged the edges of the frame with Old Olive to give it a subtle, aged look.
I used the Nestabilities oval to cut out the center oval from Whisper White.  I stamped the sentiment in Rich Razzleberry, just above center (to make room for the pansy at the bottom).  I inked the vine stamp with Old Olive and stamped several times around the sentiment.  I inked the small flower with So Saffron and stamped it several times in amongst the vines and then sponged around the edge with Old Olive ink.  I glued the white oval behind the Old Olive frame.  I mounted the frame to the card base (just above center) using dimensionals to pop it up and add depth.  I added three white half pearls to each end of the oval frame.

Using the Butterfly punch, I cut out two butterflies from watercolor paper.  I then painted them using Rich Razzleberry and So Saffron re-inkers (see Dawn's video tutorial link above).

I used the Two-Step Bird punch (wing) to punch out three "leaves" and painted them with Old Olive re-inker.  I glued the leaves to the back of the pansy and mounted it onto the oval frame.

For the inside panel, I added vines and flowers around the edges at top of the Whisper White cardstock and then mounted it on the Old Olive frame and attached it to the inside of the card.
