I have been having some success working with alcohol inks lately. This time I used Yupo paper and tried to create layers of colours to mimic a sunset. Not sure I succeeded, but I am happy with how this turned out.
I really was just "winging it" to get the colours. I made a few different ones, but this was the only one I really liked, The others are still on my worktable and I may just turn them over and try again on the back. :)
I squirted the purple and blue first, adding blending solution to make the colours move across the paper. Once they seemed settled (not dry), I added the other two colours. Right now I don't have any tips on this technique ... it's trial and error for me, but I'm hoping to learn as I make more. :)
Stamps: Pine Tree (Stampscapes); Bloom of Hope sentiment (SU!)
Paper: White card base (Neenah 110 lb); Yupo
Ink: Alcohol Inks: Passion Purple, Baja Blue, Calabaza Orange, Lime Green (Pinata); Archival Black Ink (Ranger)
Accessories & Tools: Blending solution (Tim Holtz)

Wow Loll, you certainly got a beautiful background that does indeed look like a sunset! It is just stunning and makes for a great sympathy card. My prayers are with this who had a tragic loss. Hugs, Brenda

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for the pain that your friends are going through, but this card is sure to give them comfort. It's truly beautiful. Would love to see a video of you creating with your Alcohol inks. While you can't ever get the same thing twice, it would be fun to watch how you go about it.

Oh my...this is absolutely GORGEOUS Loll! I love all your cards, but this one is just stunning! I have a question for you. I finally got my Al inks out this weekend and was playing around (working on making them into cards now), and thought I'd try a couple of my regular SU! inks (non-alcohol) on the Yupo paper, and of course they didn't dry. Looked very pretty with the straw technique blowing the colors around, but again, it never dried. Could you add alcohol to regular water based inks (like SU!) so that it would dry? I'm asking you because maybe you know (or have tried) and then I won't have to waste anymore of my Yupo paper! The craft store where I buy mine comes in a tablet of only 10 sheets and it goes fast and is expensive! Thanks Loll! :0)
ReplyDeleteHi Marcia. You can use waterbased inks on Yupo, but you have to let it dry a long time ... at least overnight or maybe longer.
DeleteBut I'm pretty sure you can make your own alcohol inks by adding rubbing alcohol to reinkers. It's been a long time, but I believe I made some sprays a few years back with reinkers and a combination of rubbing alcohol and water. It would be a good experiment to try mixing them and using on Yupo. Let me know how it works out if you end up giving it a try. Loll
Beautiful landscape you created there! I haven't played too much with Yupo paper and alcohol inks but it's hard for me to imagine having any kind of control of the outcome!
