CAS Mix Up March Challenge

Hi everyone.   Today is the start of the CAS Mix Up March Challenge.  This month's challenge is hosted by our mega talented Designer, Joanna (Jo-Jo's Spot).  We are also celebrating our third birthday!


It's our birthday ... come help us celebrate!


CAS Mix Up is 3!!  Time is flying by ... seems like only a short time ago that Bonnie and I started this challenge.  It's been so much fun!  Thanks to all that join us in our learning of new techniques and products.  Check out the challenge blog for more info on our celebration.

Joanna wants us to play with the stained glass technique.  It's a simple die-cutting technique where you die-cut several layers of the same die, many in a neutral (white, black, silver) and one that is coloured. Then you stack them up with the coloured one on the bottom, adding add crystal glaze (or glossy accents, crystal effects, etc.) to fill in over the coloured parts.  The technique is so amazing and the images do look like stained glass.

My card above uses alcohol inks on acetate, which I think gives more of a translucent look. Layered the white die cut four times.  Glued three of the layers together with the acetate on the back.  Filled up the areas with Crystal Glaze.  Once set, adhered the fourth layer on top.  I did the four layer separately in case I got glaze on the top layer of card stock when filling.  It worked great to do it this way.

    Such a gorgeous card, Loll! Your die is perfect for this technique, too...I think it showcases your alcohol inked background beautifully, and I love all the shine! Can't wait to try it out and play along!

    What a fabulous effect but I just can't imagine filling all those spaces with a glaze. Love the gorgeous colors and I'm impressed that you stacked die cuts so neatly, something I just can't see to get right. Beautiful card!

    I adore this beautiful die cut scene with the tree which you have used as the base for your stained glass effect Loll, and the alcohol inks are stunning on the acetate and give a brighter and clearer finish to the background, and the silver inked sentiment finishes it perfectly. x

    Stunning faux stained glass card, Loll. I love how you used the alcohol ink background as your 1st layer and then added 3 more layers of your die cut beautiful image then adding your Nuvo Chrystal Glaze, let dry then added your final die cut layer.

    Wow...Gorgeous,my friend. I just got the glaze and can't wait to try this beautiful technique. Congratulation Loll and Bonnie for inspiring us with 3 years of amazing CAS Mix Up challenges.     This is absolutely stunning, Loll! I love the deep forest AI colors with a translucent look! And you did a fantastic job of filling up all the tiny areas with Crystal Glaze! The effect is truly worth the time. The beautiful open white space looks even more beautiful with the blue/green and the layered intricate die-cuts!

    Gorgeous card, Loll. The deep rich colours of your AI acetate piece is stunning against your stacked tree diecut. Love this technique. I must have been channeling CMU’s vibe because I did it for my MB DT post today!
