Holly Christmas

Hi everyone.  We are over half way through the month, so today's post is a reminder about the CAS Christimas March Challenge - Holly.

This time I'm using a holly die (Penny Black) and some patterned paper.  Those of you who follow me regularly know that patterned paper rarely makes an appearance on this blog.  I tend to make my own background designs, but I couldn't resist picking up the "festive & frosty" 6"x6" pad of Christmas papers from Penny Black.

I challenged myself to try to use up the patterned paper with no leftovers.  I'm pretty happy that I managed to make four cards from the 6"x6" holly paper. :)  I'm sharing three today, and one more posted later.

Here's a close-up of above ...
I cut several layers, starting with a thick white card for the base layer, then a complete image again in baked brown sugar card stock, the leaves out of the patterned paper, and the berries from real red card stock.  I used the matching inks (and gumball green for the patterned leaves) to sponge over top to add a little shading and dimension.  Then I glued the layers together.

Here's a couple more Holly cards using the same holly paper ...
... and ...
There's still one week left to play along with the CAS Christmas March Challenge - Holly.  Check out the beautiful reminder cards from the Designers by clicking HERE.  Then some join us!

Stamps:  Joyful Greetings (Paper Smooches); Snowglobe Sentiments (My Favorite Things)

Wow Loll! I love these : ) That pp is super pretty and I really love your designs!!

Great minds think alike? I was working on a card for a DT post in April and I used patterned paper on it. I have so much wonderful! pp that I rarely use anymore. It was fun pulling it out last night and doing some paper piecing.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Great looks with the pretty dp! Those berries look so dimensional and luscious. I bet you don't have any snippets left out of that particular piece of dp. Love how you've changed it up with each card design too. TFS & Hugs

Wow! What a wonderful use of patterned paper, my friend! And not one, but three (and one more to come) fantastic cards! Love the dimension of the first holly branch and the inlaid holly of the second card! And the paper makes a beautiful background for the third card! Love that little cardinal perched on it!

Three fabulous cards - so glad I saw them in real life. My favourite is the first one - love the patterned paper as the top layer of the holly leaves!! It's perfect with just the short "joy" sentiment tucked in there.

Love the use of that paper for the holly leaves. Your additional sponging added so much interest to this. Some day I will learn you style! Love these and love that you got FOUR done!

I thought you made this background/patterned paper, Loll! ;-P
You used the paper in all three cards (and one more to come) very different way. How creative you are! I love your detail work - adding shading and dimension by sponging, highlighting with a white jell pen, making berries and leaves shine and shimmer by coating with Glossy Accents and Wink of Stella, etc. They're all wonderful crisp CAS designs too.

I fell in love with this die PB (first card). It looks so beautiful! The second card is also perfect - I love how you divided a colored panel to put a sentiment there. Looks amazing! The third card is a beautiful combination of Christmas colors. All three cards are very beautiful Loll! Thank you for inspiration.

May I just say, I think you should use pattern paper a little more often? I love how you used it here! Or maybe I can't wait to see how else you use this pad. I've never even seen it before. It's terrific. I really like how you used it with the holly leaves. So pretty. Gosh, each card is delightful. I'm going to have to check out that paper pad. Thanks so much for sharing!

Such lovely use of that delicious pp, Loll ... when I saw that first card I thought you'd done some collage stamping! Then I read your post and scrolled on to see the other cards ... such a gorgeous trio ... and a reason for using more pp maybe?! Hugs, Anita :)

You made great use of the paper, Loll. I love the first one with the leaves cut directly from the paper but it makes a wonderful background for your different holly dies.

Oh my gosh Loll! I loved the first one - then I loved the 2nd one - and then the 3rd one! That paper is so gorgeous - and you really took it to another level with your beautiful holly dies! Love these! Julia xx

Great job in using up the PP - every one of these is great - as I'm sure that one hiding behind the curtain, waiting for its debut, will be. I especially like the one with the sentiment between the 2 pieces of PP.
