Falliday Fest Fun

Hi everyone.  Today I'm sharing several cards I made for Falliday Fest at Splitcoaststampers.  This is an annual event over 10 days (it ran Oct. 7 - 17).  It's a fun Fall / Winter / Christmas themed card making event with over 40 challenges.  The participants have until Oct. 31st to post their cards on the SCS website.

Here's what I made so far ...
I hand watercoloured this tree using distress reinkers on cold press w/c paper (arches 140 lb.).  I diluted white acrylic paint and splattered lots of falling snow.  I used some old patterened paper that I've been hoarding to create the wood frame. :)  Thanks to SCS for the fun challenges!!

The card above is for three challenges:
1) FF26annsforte3 - Snow Challenge (create a snowscene with lots of falling snow);
2) FF26janemomA - Holiday Tree (Do it Yourself) Challenge - make a Christmas tree card without using tree stamps, dies, stencils or patterned paper;
3) FF26sleepyinseattle - Woodwork Challenge - include wood in your card

I watercoloured my own Christmas tree using Gansai Tambi paints and Princeton brushes on cold press w/c paper.  I framed the image with a piece of wood dsp.  Sentiment is from Love Bug Christmas (Unity Stamp co.).  :)

I was inspired by the poinsettias and vintage style of the postcard ...
I used the stamp/stencil/die set from Simon Says (Holiday Sprigs) to create my pieces for the cards.  I stamped all the images in black pigment ink (Altenew Obsidian) and heat embossed in clear.  Using distress inks candied apple, aged mahogany, shabby shutters, and peeled paint, I sponged through the stencils and then die-cut the pieces using the matching die set.  I used some older patterned paper for the background strips and squares and added the elements on top (including the sentiments from the same set).  I made four cards (two of each design).

The card above is for the FF26CAKath Challenge - Christmas postcard inspiration.
Thanks for the fun challenge Kathy!

Next card ... A Seasonal Animal ...
I LOVE this artsy image from Studio Light (A Reindeer with Text).  A prize from a challenge I entered. :)  Out of my leftovers from previous cardmaking sessions, I found this smooshed background.  I don't remember the colour, but believe it is Peeled Paint Distress Ink.  It seemed perfect for this artsy image.  I stamped in black and added a torn snowhill at the bottom.  Sentiment is on the inside.

Thanks for the great challenge Ann!

The card above is for the FF26Dockside Challenge  - A Seasonal Animal.  I used a reindeer as I'm focussed on creating Christmas cards right now. :)

For my card below, I used the print making technique to create the background.
I die cut the holly sprig twice from mixed media paper and watercoloured both with distress reinkers to create saturated colours.  I used one of the sprigs to make the background paper, misting with water and pressing onto a piece of mixed media paper.  Pulled it up and repeated three times to get partial prints of the holly sprig.  Once dry, I mounted onto my card base and added the other holly sprig on top.

This card above is for my dear friend, Susan's Challenge (FF26susanbri Challenge - Holly and/or Mistletoe).

Thanks for stopping by!

Guest Designing at AAA Birthday Cards

Hi everyone.  I'm thrilled to be Guest Designing at AAA Birthday Card Challenge:  Game #90 - Big and Bold.  Thanks so much Jane and team!

I do love this time of year.  Fall cards are fun to make. :)

For today's card I started with a background I had in my stash (smooshed liquid concentrate watercolours in Pink and Orange - Blick Art Materials).  I used a large stamp overtop, Crackle Background (Simon Says Stamp), stamping in Vintage Photo Distress ink.  To add the last layer, I used the Peeking Sunflower stencil from STAMPlorations.  I pressed my versamark ink pad over the stencil, sprinkled with Fired Brick Distress Glaze, and then heat set.  You can still see the stamped design in the background, even with the glaze heat embossed over top.  It's awesome!  To finish, I added "on your birthday" sentiment on the inside. :)

Reminder CAS Christmas Challenge - Woodland Critters

Hi everyone.  We are half way through the CAS Christmas Sepember Challenge - Woodland Critters, hosted by Lisa.

I adore all the Penny Black critter images I have ... but this one is the sweetest. :)  I stamped Hopping by (Penny Black) in black ink onto mixed media paper.  I heat embossed in clear and then watercoloured using distress inks and reinkers.  I used the matching die (Hopping by Cut Out - Penny Black) to die-cut the image.  I cut a medium-sized panel for my card, sponged softly with Salty Ocean distress ink on the right side.  I added two torn snowhills at the bottom with the stamped sentiment from the same stamp set, done in Candied Apple Distress Oxide ink.  The bunny was added on top, just slipping his feet slightly under the edge of the torn snow and popped up with dimensions.  The whole panel was popped up from the card front.

Birthday card for Alejandro

Hi everyone.  My son-in-law's birthday was just a few days ago and today I'm sharing the card I made for him.  I used the Sip Sip Ole (Spellbinder's) die set.  I pretty much CASED one of the cards on the site ... just changing it up slightly.  It was so fun to create this card. :)

I started by lightly sponging part of my background in distress inks in soft greens (Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn).  I die-cut the Margarita glass from vellum lined with acetate to give a frosted look, with the acetate giving it strength.  I sponged more colour for the inside of the glass  and added the "salt rim" with acetate covered in large glitter.  The rest of the pieces were die-cut from mixed media paper and watercoloured (or sponged) with more distress inks.

The drink was layered on top of my background.  I typed the sentiments on my computer (Century Gothic and Autography fonts), printed and cut out to finish the card.  It reads ...

                                        Card Front:                                               Inside Card:

Critter Craze Challenge #113

Hi everyone.  Today I'm sharing a card I made with a new-to-me die of a darling bear.  I call him Tired Bear, as he is sprawled out and definitely looks like he is in need of a nap. :)  Sorry for the poor quality photo ... my camera is on its' way out. :(

I made this card for the Critter Crazy Challenge #113 - Anything with Critters Goes.  My friend, Faith, in on the Design Team.  I'm happy to finally had a chance to make a card to join in. :)

I die-cut the bear from Soft Suede cardstock and used a fine-tip black marker to go over the scored design of the die.  I used a SU! black marker to go along the outside edge as well.  It (sort of) looks like it's a stamp, but it's all a die.  Today I saw a video where Jo Simons inked a background die and then pressed a piece of cardstock over top.  What a great idea.  I will try that next time. :)

I sponged around the outside of the die with Gathered Twigs distress ink and then added some red chalk for the cheeks, and a few details with a white acrylic pen.  I created the background with a piece of red plaid paper with real red strip at the bottom for the bear to rest on.  The sentiment is computer generated.  To finish, the main panel was popped up with foam onto a white card base for a little dimension.

Smooshed a piece of mixed media paper and once dry, stamped my image in black pigment ink and heat embossed in clear.  Watercoloured using distress inks.

This is a reminder for the CAS Mix Up August Challenge - Stenciling over Patterned Paper.  The challenge is open until Aug. 31.
I used this beautiful background paper from Honey Bee, stenciling overtop with the Farmhouse Tree Stencil (Honey Bee).  I started with layers of distress Inks (Mowed Lawn, Rustic Wilderness) and let it dry thoroughly before stenciling overtop with Versamark and sprinkling with White embossing powder.  I heat set and also stamped and heat set the sentiment (Christmas Sentiments - Penny Black) as well.  To finish, I trimmed the panel down to size, allowing more white space on my card front.

Stenciled Gladiolus

Hi everyone.  Made a quick and easy CAS card for a couple of challenges. :)

Started with one of my favourite stamp sets from Altenew - Nature's Magic.  Stamped and die-cut the gladiolus and used the matching stencil and some detail brushes to sponge colour.

Used a rectangle die (center of a frame I had cut for another project), stenciling over top with Wander and Find (Carta Bella) in Shabby Shutters distress ink.  I finished by stamping a small sentiment in black ink.

Popped up the panel, added the gladiolus on top (popping up the top few flowers), adding it onto my white card base.  Added a few small details with my white acrylic paint pen to finish.
