Colouring Dry Embossing - Group of Seven

Hi everyone.  This month our Group of Seven Cardmakers had fun Colouring Dry Embossing.  Bonnie made a couple of cards back in February, and shared the two ways she coloured dry embossing; sponging and watercolouring.  Bonnie led the team and showed us how she made the cards and shared a third alternative - inkpad swiping.  Thanks Bonnie!

Please check out the details for the technique and link to video on the blog ...
I do love to watercolour dry embossed images and have done it several times in the past (see below for more samples).  This time I used soft colours of distress inks (Shabby Shutters, Saltwater Taffy, Abandoned Coral) to watercolour the embossed image of Roses (Tim Holtz) on mixed media paper.  I finished the card with a sentiment from Gratitude (Penny Black), stamped in black for contrast.

Close-up ...

It's the first time using this embossing folder, so I'm sending this card to NBUS Challenge #52.

I'm also sending the card to Can You Handle the Pressure July Challenge - with a twist of Nautical.  As you can see, I didn't use the twist. :)

Another card using similar colours ...
This time I simply sponged over the raised design.  Again with Saltwater Taffy, Abandoned Coral, Shabby Shutters, and also Peeled Paint, Mustard Seed, and Chipped Sapphire distress inks.  This was a really quick and easy card.

Thanks for stopping by!

Washi Tape Christmas

Hi everyone.  I recently bought two rolls of 3" wide washi tape.  I spent a couple of days playing with the first roll and came up with several CAS (clean and simple) Christmas cards. :)  It was fun!

The card above is going to the Rudolph Days July Challenge - Anything Christmas goes.  Thanks Maureen!!

And since this is the first time using the washi tape, I'm sending the above card over to NBUS Challenge #52 as well. :)  Thanks Darnell!

I looked through my dies and picked out ones that had a frame around them.  It was quick and easy to create a background with the washi tape and then add a white die-cut over top.  That's the first four cards ... one above, and three more below ...

... and the above card is going to Merry Little Christmas Challenge #51.

Then I die-cut some shapes (rectangle, oval, frame) and covered them with the washi tape.  Die-cut elements were added on top ...

I still have lots more pieces ready to make into cards. :)  Then I'll work with the second roll of washi tape to see what else I can come up with. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Reminder Penny Black Saturday Challenge

Hi everyone.  I'm back with a second card as Guest Designer at PBSC July, Anything Penny Black Goes with an optional theme of "The Great Outdoors".
For today's card I used Peaceful Moment (Penny Black), stamped in black and heat embossed in clear.  I then sponged three colours of distress inks for the sunset (Mustard Seed, Peacock Feathers, Abandoned Coral).  I mounted my panel onto my card front and added a simple sentiment (Happy Snippets - Penny Black) at the bottom.  Fun and easy card!

Close-up ...
I've had so much fun being part of this month's challenge.  I've enjoyed checking out each fabulous entry to get a closer look.  :)

There's still lots of time to play along if you haven't already done so.

And thanks again to the PBSC team for letting me join them this month!

More Off the Edge cards

Hi everyone.  A few more cards for June's Group of Seven technique - Off the Edge.  I do love this design element!

The card above uses a stencil "Off the Edge".  I started by masking the outside petals of the sunflower stencil (Mini Joyful Sunflower (6x6) - The Crafter's Workshop) using post-it-notes, sponged two shades of brown Distress Inks (Brushed Corduroy, Gathered Twigs) for the center and then removed the masks.  Add more masking to the inside of the flower and then sponged the petals in more Distress Inks (Squeezed Lemonade, Spiced Marmalade).  Removed the mask and then simply stamped a sentiment from Thoughtful Messages stamp set (Simon Says Stamp) to finish this one layer card. :)

Sending this card to the Stencil Fun Challenge - July - optional Birthday (2nd entry).  Thanks Diane and Darlene!

... and another ...

I stamped Red Star (Penny Black) in Antique Linen distress ink and then did no-line watercolouring of the poinsettia and greenery using Distress inks (Candied Apple, Fired Brick, Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed).  For some reason, my camera saw a pinky red for this poinsettia. :)

I hope you'll join us at the link party on the Group of Seven Cardmaker's blog if you'd like to share your creations.

Faux Embossing

Hi everyone.  I recently watched a video by Gina K and thought this was such a cool technique.  It basically turns solid stamped images (or stenciled images) into the look of a dry embossed image with dimension.

I tried to replicate my success using other colours of card stock, colours of ink that I had in my stash, and solid stamps, but didn't have any success.  For now, this will be a "one of" design. :)

I used the Fading Florals stencil from Simon Says Stamp, inking it with Bermuda Bay ink (SU!) on the same coloured card stock.  I inked it a couple of times to strengthen the colour.  I then moved my stencil ever so slightly before inking again, this time in Lost Shadow DOX ink.  So happy with how it turned out.  I adhered the card front to my base and then stamped a sentiment (Simply Sentiments - Lawn Fawn) to finish the card.

Close-up ...
I do remember something similar to this technique many years ago, but I don't think it involved pigment and definitely not DOX inks that weren't around at that time.

Smooshing with Alcohol Inks

Hi everyone.   I'm sharing another alcohol inks card made a while ago ... this time on Photo Paper.  I used just two colours of alcohol inks, along with my air blower to create the background.  A simple white die-cut (Flower Florish - Penny Black), shaped with a stylus and mat, was added over top.  To finish this quick and easy card, the sentiment (retired) was stamped in Versamark and heat embossed in white.

This was a super fast and easy card to make! :)

Guest Designing at Penny Black Saturday Challenge

Hi everyone.  I'm excited to be joining the wonderful team at July Penny Black Saturday Challenge (Optional "The Great Outdoors") this month as their Guest Designer.  Thanks to Helen and the team for inviting me!
You know me, flowers are my favourite subject matter, so I pulled out this fun garden image (Good Neighbours - Penny Black), which has some birdhouses and birds too. :)

I started with mixed media paper, stamping the image in Archival ink (Coffee).  I watercoloured using Distress Inks (LOTS of colours, listed below).  I wanted to match the design with the whimiscal image, so I cut my front panel on an angle and layered it over a bright green card front, along with a sentiment banner (Happy Snippets - Penny Black).

Close-up ...
I'm sending this card over to the Double D June Challenge - Color (see moodboard below).  I used three of the four colours in my card. :)  Thanks Diane & Darlene!

I hope you'll join us this month at PBSC where it's Anything Goes Penny Black with an optional theme of "The Great Outdoors".  Hope to see you in the gallery! :)

Thanks for stopping by!
