Twelve Tags of Christmas ... Day Twelve

Hi everyone.  Can't believe that it's time for my last tag for my "Twelve Tags of Christmas" Event.  I have really enjoyed sharing my tags with you and have LOVED having my wonderful friends join me as Guest Designers for this event.  I hope we have inspired you to make some tags for your Christmas.  The link will remain open for a couple more days, so there's still time to play along.  Come join in the fun and link up your Mixed Media* Christmas tags below

* For this event, Mixed Media is defined as stamps + ink, plus two other elements which add texture and/or dimension.

Tag #12

How I made Tag #12:

I started with the faux mother-of-pearl technique (love this technique and can't get enough of it!!) :)  Click HERE to see my video tutorial on this fun technique.  I sponged over top with two shades of brown distress inks (Antique Linen / Brushed Corduroy).  I then inked my En Francais script stamp with dark brown ink (Vintage Photo), stamped onto a scrap of paper first, and then stamped my tag.  Love the softness of second generation stamping.  I die-cut three holly from olive card stock and then sponged more ink around the edges to make it darker.  The holly leaves have been coated with green glitter glue, and once dry, shaped with my stylus and mat.  Three small red glitter covered balls are the berries.  I cut out the "PEACE" from my Cameo ... once in dark red card stock and twice more in white and layered them together with glue to make a thick embellishment.  I sponged the edges with a dark red ink and then coated it in red glitter glue.  Again I've used seam binding for the ribbon, dying it with Brushed Corduroy ink misted with water, scrunching, and letting it dry - love it!

Today's special Guest Designer is Deepti ... she is a constant source of inspiration for me.  Deepti is a true artist --- she sometimes includes hand-drawn elements on her projects.  She has a wonderful sense of colour, design and balance. She is another busy person!  We are Design Teammates at Addicted to Stamps & More, Addicted to CAS, and Mixed Media Card Challenge blogs and she designs for the Fusion Challenge as well. Deepti is also on the design team for STAMPlorations and CAS-ual Friday's Stamps.  Take some time to check out her blog, Dee’s Art Utopia … you’ll be glad you did!

Twelve Tags of Christmas ... Day Eleven

Hi everyone.  Welcome to Day Eleven of my "Twelve Tags of Christmas" Event.  We're getting down to the last few days of tags for this event.  It has gone so quickly!!  Each day of the event, I'm posting two mixed media Christmas tags (one made by me; one made by a friend).  Each Guest Designer has a unique and creative style ... and I hope that our tags inspire you to show us your style!  Come join in the fun and link up your Mixed Media* Christmas tags below.

For those of you that are interested, I have set up a Pinterest Board with the tags from this event.  So fun to look at them all together!!  Check it out HERE.  If I've missed adding your tag, please let me know :)

* For this event, Mixed Media is defined as stamps + ink, plus two other elements which add texture and/or dimension.

Tag #11

Here's how I made Tag #11:

This tag (2 1/8" x 3 5/8") has a raised brick background made with a stencil and Sparkle Texture Effect (Martha Stewart) ... the bricks are very sparkly IRL.   Several pine sprig die-cuts were "frosted" with the same sparkle texture and glued onto a circle frame.  "Merry" was die-cut from red glitter paper and mounted on top of the wreath, and small red rhinestones were added for the berries.  A simple banner with "christmas" was added to the bottom and a misted and scrunched ribbon was added to the top to finish.

Today's special Guest Designer is Vicki (All I Do is Stamp) ... perfect blog name for Vicki!! :)  I first saw Vicki’s cards on SCS (yes, many of my friends are from there --- it’s a wonderful crafting community).  I was drawn to her bold style with her mix of saturated colors and her keen eye to balance and design.  She is so talented and also a very prolific crafter, making cards almost every day … and sometimes several cards a day.  Vicki is currently on the design teams for the following companies:  Inspired by Stamping, STAMPlorations, Add A Little Dazzle, Dare 2B Artsy, and A Walk Down Memory Lane.  And she is on the Design Teams for the following challenges:  Just Us Girls, Addicted to CAS, AAA Card, Cardabilities, Muse, The Male Room … and she is part of the team that organizes colour challenges at Splitcoast Stampers.  Whew!!  She is one busy lady!!

All the details on how Vicki made this gorgeous tag below can be found by clicking HERE.

Twelve Tags of Christmas ... Day Ten

Hi everyone.  Welcome to the tenth day of my "Twelve Tags of Christmas" Event.  I am amazed at the gorgeous tags that have been entered into this event.  Each one is so beautifully creative and unique!  I hope you enjoy the two tags in today's post (one made by me; one made by a friend) ... and I hope our tags inspire you to add your Mixed Media* Christmas tags to the growing gallery below.

* For this event, Mixed Media is defined as stamps + ink, plus two other elements which add texture and/or dimension.

Tag #10

Here's how I made Tag #10:

First I stamped the Christmas Story background (Penny Black stamp) and heat embossed in white onto my white tag (2 1/8" x 3 5/8").  Distress Inks were sponged on top (Barn Door over the whole tag, Fired Brick around the edges).  I die-cut two trees (Sizzix dies) from green glitter and brown glitter paper and also from white card stock.  They were glued together in layers to make the trees thick and sturdy.  I ripped two pieces of white card stock for the snow banks and stamped the sentiment in Barn Door ink.  Everything was then mounted on top of my embossed background, and the trees were popped up for added dimension.  A double red-stitched white ribbon was added to the top to finish.

Today's special Guest Designer is Marina.  She is one of my newest teammates on Addicted to Stamps & More Design Team.  I love Marina’s style … she does both CAS and mixed media and her projects are always so creative and fun.  She has recently started providing videos of some of her projects and you can tell how much fun she has getting messy with mixed media!!  Marina has a lot of enthusiasm, which she shares on her blog as well as at the new craft forum Happy Little Stampers.  She has taken on a large role of introducing new topics for discussion each week at HLS and really gets everyone engaged.  Check out her blog, Marina’s Craft Space and take a look around --- you’re going to have fun! :)  She currently designs for Lawnscaping Challenge and ATS&M, and soon will be designing for Canvas Corp Brands Creative Crew for Tags & Papers Category for 2015.

Details on how Marina made this fun and creative tag below, can be found by clicking HERE.  And as an added bonus, Marina has made a "how to" video for this tag ... make sure to check it out!

Here's Marina's tag ....

Awesome tag!!  Thanks so much Marina!!

Twelve Tags of Christmas ... Day Nine

Hi everyone.  Welcome to Day Nine of my "Twelve Tags of Christmas" Event. Each day, for twelve days, I'm posting two mixed media Christmas tags (one made by me; one made by a friend).  We hope our tags inspire you!  And for more inspiration, please check out the tags that have been entered ... lots of gorgeousness in the gallery!  And if you haven't already done so, come join in the fun and link up your Mixed Media* Christmas tags below.

* For this event, Mixed Media is defined as stamps + ink, plus two other elements which add texture and/or dimension.

Tag #9

Here's how I made Tag #9:

Faux-mother-of-pearl technique (click HERE to see my video tutorial) was used on the tag (2 1/8" x 3 5/8") and then it was sponged with two distress inks (Weathered Wood and Black Soot).  The trees were stamped a few times in Smoky Slate ink (SU!), one is second generation for the background.  The deer is cut with the Cameo and sponged the same colors as the tag (Weathered Wood and Black Soot), and the snowflake is a die-cut, covered with Versamark ink, coated in Liquid Platinum embossing powder and heated ... such a beautiful color!  The sentiment is computer generated onto white card stock and then cut out.  For the snow, white card stock was ripped and layered, with clear glitter glue brushed along the ripped edges for some sparkle.  Cherry Cobbler seam binding was misted with water, scrunched and left to dry ... then tied to the top of the tag.  The red adds a nice pop of color against all the gray.

Today's special Guest Designer is Julia ... another wonderful crafter I met through SCS (Splitcoast Stampers).  I was drawn to her style of card making, and checked out her blog, Create with Me.  Julia makes many styles of cards, but has totally embraced the mixed media style (a la Tim Holtz), using incredible techniques from his instruction books.  Julia’s mixed media tags are STUNNING … I always gasp when I see them on her blog ... amazing!  Hope you'll take some time to look through her blog ... you'll be glad you did!  Julia is currently on the design teams for Creations by AR and Waltzingmouse Stamps … and is on the design teams for Mixed Media Card Challenge, Fusion Challenge, and A Vintage Journey Challenge.

Twelve Tags of Christmas ... Day Eight

Hi everyone.  Welcome to Day Eight of my "Twelve Tags of Christmas" Event.  I can't believe how quickly the days are flying by ... before we know it, Christmas will be here. Do you need some Christmas tags for the gifts you're giving this year??!!  We hope you'll be inspired to join in the fun to create your own Christmas tags.  Link up your Mixed Media* Christmas tags below and join the party! :)

* For this event, Mixed Media is defined as stamps + ink, plus two other elements which add texture and/or dimension.

Tag #8

Here's how I made Tag #8:

This tag was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest.  Pale green ink (Old Paper Distress Ink) was sponged over a harlequin (diamond) stencil and then two shades of brown distress inks (Antique Linen / Brushed Corduroy) were sponged around the tag, fading it out towards the center so the diamonds were still visible.  A border of vines were stamped around the tag (second generation stamping with Brushed Corduroy ink) and the sentiment was stamped in Vintage Photo ink.  The bird (perched reed bird die from memory box), branch, pine sprig nest and tab at top of tag are all die-cuts with sponged edges for interest.  A red and gold ribbon was added to finish the tag.

Today's special Guest Designer is Shery, owner of STAMPlorations.  I saw Shery’s beautiful stamps through my friend’s blogs (Kylie, Vicki, and Deepti) … they are all on her Design Team at STAMPlorations. :)  I checked out Shery’s blog, One Layer, CAS and Mixed Media cards … and was instantly hooked.  She is the master at one layer cards … seriously!!  I’m in awe of her one layer cards … amazing depth and texture … so incredible!  Shery is not only an artist and stamp designer, but she also makes the most beautiful mixed media cards and projects.  And somehow she found the time a few months ago to start up a new challenge blog, Mixed Media Card Challenge.  It was instantly successful, of course!!   Shery designs stamps for her company --- STAMPlorations and is on the design teams for these challenges: Mixed Media Card Challenges, SRM Stickers, Time Out Challenges, 613 Avenue Challenges, and the Crafter’s Café Challenges --- wow! :)

Twelve Tags of Christmas ... Day Seven

Hi everyone.  Welcome to Day Seven of my "Twelve Tags of Christmas" Event.  In case this is your first visit, I am posting twelve days of mixed media Christmas tags. And I have a special Guest Designer joining me each day.  We hope our tags inspire you! Come join in the fun and link up your Mixed Media* Christmas tags below.

* For this event, Mixed Media is defined as stamps + ink, plus two other elements which add texture and/or dimension.

Tag #7

Here's how I made Tag #7:

The tag (2 1/8" x 3 5/8") was sponged all over with Shabby Shutters Distress Ink. Forest Moss Distress ink was sponged around the outside edges to add depth. Several pine sprigs (Watercolor Winter stamp from SU!) were stamped around the tag using second generation stamping (stamped off once onto scrap then stamped onto the tag). The ornaments are 5/8" circles cut from red glitter paper and covered with Glossy Accents for shine and dimension.  A silver metallic pen was used to draw in the hangers for the ornaments.  The sentiment was stamped at the bottom with Forest Moss ink. And finally, two strands of 1/4" Real Red ribbon was tied to the top of the tag.

Today's special Guest Designer is Bonnie (Stamping with Klass).  The first time I saw Bonnie's cards was on SCS, which led me to her blog.  She is on the Design Team for Merry Monday Challenges, and I was so inspired by Bonnie's beautiful Christmas cards, I entered the challenges and eventually joined the Merry Monday design team for six months.  She makes gorgeous cards using lots of different techniques, and holds regular classes to teach others.  Bonnie still works hard for the Merry Monday Challenge team, producing gorgeous Christmas cards every week throughout the year ... that takes dedication!!  I hope you'll check out her fabulous blog, and spend some time perusing through her amazing creations.  Details on how she made the beautiful tag below are also on her blog --- don't miss it!

Twelve Tags of Christmas ... Day Six

Hi everyone.  Welcome to the sixth day of my "Twelve Tags of Christmas" Event ... already half way through the event ... time goes fast when you're having fun! :)

Each day, for twelve days, I'm posting two mixed media Christmas tags (one made by me; one made by a friend).  We hope our tags inspire you!  Come join in the fun and link up your Mixed Media* Christmas tags below.

* For this event, Mixed Media is defined as stamps + ink, plus two other elements which add texture and/or dimension.

Tag #6

Here's how I made Tag #6:

The tag (2 1/8" x 3 5/8") was sponged all over with Barn Door Distress Ink and Fired Brick Distress ink was sponged around the outside edges to add depth.  Musical notes (Mini Mixed Media Backgrounds by STAMPlorations) were stamped in the top left corner on an angle.  A diamond pattern was stenciled over top of the rest of the tag, and then coated with glass bead gel.  Hard to tell in the photo, but the glass bead diamonds are very sparkly (and pretty!) :)  I used a holly stencil gifted to me by my good friend Susan (thanks Susan), sponged it with green inks (Old Olive, Always Artichoke), cut it out and then coated it with green glitter glue.  The holly sprig is popped up on the tag and three red rhinestones were added for the berries.  The sentiment (Oh, Christmas Tree by STAMPlorations) is stamped in Old Olive ink and popped up.  Seam binding ribbon was dyed to match, scrunched up while wet and once dried, added to the top of the tag.

Today's special Guest Designer is Lee-Anne.  I first saw Lee-Anne's cards on Splitcoast Stampers a few years back, and in the past year we start communicating outside the forum.  I was always impressed with her mixed media cards on SCS, but at that time, I thought there was no way I could marry those techniques with my CAS style.  Was I wrong!!  Lee-Anne showed me the way as she is a master of Mixed Media CAS cards.  I started following her blog and realized that the two styles are amazing together.  It opened up a whole new world for me, and I have Lee-Anne to thank for that.  Check out her blog, Creatively LA and you'll see what I mean ... gorgeous, gorgeous creations! Lee-Anne and I are now on the same Design Team (ATS&M) and I'm so excited to be working with her!  She is also on the design team for Add A Little Dazzle (coloured metal sheets) and creating fabulous cards with this fun medium.

For details on how Lee-Anne made this beautiful tag below, please click HERE.

Wow!  Fabulous design Lee-Anne!!

Twelve Tags of Christmas ... Day Five

Hi everyone.  Welcome to the fifth day of my "Twelve Tags of Christmas" Event.  I've had so much fun with this event and I want to thank everyone that has entered a tag or left comments.  Two more tags posted here today (one made by me; one made by a friend).  We hope our tags inspire you to play along!  Speaking of inspiring, I hope you'll check out the tags that are in the gallery and leave some love for those who have entered ... so many gorgeous tags!!  And if you have played along yet, I hope you'll join in the fun and link up your Mixed Media* Christmas tags below.

* For this event, Mixed Media is defined as stamps + ink, plus two other elements which add texture and/or dimension.

Tag #5

Here's how I made Tag #5:

The white tag (2 1/8" x 3 5/8") was sponged with Broken China, Peacock Feathers, and then a little Evergreen Bough around the edges.  I folded up a couple of pieces of paper towel, and then poured water over top - this was my "stamp pad".  A large snowflake stamp was pounced into the wet, and then stamped randomly over the tag.  The water reacts with the distress inks and snowflake image appears lighter.  The background was then splattered with diluted white paint.  The trees are a die from Impression Obsession, called Fir tree border.  I cut out the border, and then cut it in half to create two layers of trees.  White card stock was ripped and layered to create snow banks at the bottom. Dazzling Details (clear glitter glue) adds a little sparkle along the ripped edges and all over the trees.  I die-cut the Antique Lamp Post (Poppy Stamps) from black and two from white, gluing them together to make it sturdy.  Yellow ink was sponged onto white card stock and a small circle (hole punch) was used as the light fixture for the lamp ...a couple of pine sprigs and a red cord bow decorates the lamp post.  Sparkle Texture effect (Martha Stewart) was added for the snow on the lamp post and "joy" was cut from dark red card stock using my Silhouette Cameo.  I dyed a piece of seam binding with the same dark red ink, scrunched it up, let it dry overnight, and then added to the top of my tag.  Whew! :)  Sounds like a lot, but it was so much fun to make!

* * * * *

Today's special Guest Designer is Ingrid of Ingrid's Crafts Corner (check out her blog and prepare to be amazed!).  I only met Ingrid recently through the Mixed Media Card Challenge.  She entered two cards in the inaugural challenge in July and I was blown away with her designs.  Ingrid is multi-talented … not only making the most beautiful mixed media projects, but she also makes other styles of cards.  She is always experimenting with new products, and freely shares her experiences along with tips and tricks she's learned.  Ingrid also makes a lot of her own embellishments, using hand-drawn templates for cutting flowers and many other items --- she is very artistic!  I always learn so much when I visit her blog.  She currently designs for Glitz Craft and is on the design team for Crafty Catz challenge blog.  I hope you'll spend some time looking around Ingrid's blog ... you'll be glad you did!

Twelve Tags of Christmas ... Day Four

Hi everyone.  Welcome to Day Four of my "Twelve Tags of Christmas" Event.  The time is just flying by. :) I'm thrilled with all the wonderful entries so far ... beautiful Christmas tags made by talented crafters!!

There's still lots more days to come for this event.  Each of those days, I will be posting two mixed media Christmas tags (one made by me; one made by a friend).  We hope you'll be inspired to make some tags of your own!  Come join in the fun and link up your Mixed Media* Christmas tags below.

* For this event, Mixed Media is defined as stamps + ink, plus two other elements which add texture and/or dimension.

Tag #4

Here's how I made Tag #4:

A few drops of gold acrylic paint was added to clear gel medium and a layer was spread over top of a star stencil.  The tag (2 1/8" x 3 5/8") was then sponged in two shades of brown distress inks (all over with Antique Linen; and then around the edges with Brushed Corduroy).  Two white trees were cut and glued to the right hand side of the tag, off-set with one slightly over the edge for interest.  Two pieces of white card stock were ripped to create the layers of snow at the bottom with the sentiment stamped on top.  The deer has been sponged with the same colors as the background (Antique Linen and Brushed Corduroy).  A satin-finish star charm was added to the top with a ball-chain hanger.  Cherry Cobbler seam binding was used for the ribbon ... it was misted with water, scrunched up, dried and then unfolded to create lots of texture at the top of the tag.

Today's special Guest Designer is Nancy.  We met at SCS when we were both on the CAS Design Team in 2010 and have been friends ever since.  Nancy is a constant source of inspiration for me!  She doesn't have a blog, so I'm including a link to her tag in her gallery at SCS where you can find all the info on how she made this beautiful tag.  I hope you'll take some time to look around her gallery ... lots of amazing creations.  FYI, you will only be able to leave comments for Nancy on her SCS gallery if you are a member ... so if you aren't, please feel free to leave a message for Nancy on this post ... I'll make sure she sees it! :)

Here's Nancy's fabulous tag ....

Wow!! Love this new technique ... thanks so much Nancy! :) xx

Here's how I made Tag #3:

Faux Mother-of-Pearl technique was used for the background (see my video tutorial for this technique HERE).  The tag (2 1/8" x 3 5/8") is sponged all over with Shabby Shutters Distress ink and then the edges are sponged with Forest Moss Distress ink. The poinsettia is cut from red cardstock and coated with red glitter glue.  It was shaped using a mat and stylus, and a silver bead was added to the center.  I added glittery pine sprigs in-behind for added sparkle.  The "Christmas" word die is three layers thick, with frost white pearl paint added to the top layer for more sparkle.  Seam binding ribbon was dyed with Forest Moss ink, misted with water, scrunched up tightly and left to dry overnight ... love how the ribbon adds so much texture!

Today's special Guest Designer is Shirley.  She is a constant source of inspiration to me (and many, many others).  I love her fun and free-style mixed media cards ... and always find her blog posts entertaining.  I can't remember when I first "met" Shirley, but it was a few years back.  I saw her cards through some of the challenge blogs I was following and was drawn to her style of card making.  I started following her blog and have enjoyed every minute of it.  Check out her blog, shirley-bee's stamping stuff ... so many fantastic projects and cards to see ... you'll be sure to stay a long while.  Shirley is currently on STAMPlorations design team and she is on the design teams for the following challenges - Mixed Media Card Challenge, Seize the Birthday Challenge, and Take it Make it Challenge.  I've saved the best for last ... Shirley has now launched her own line of stamps through STAMPlorations ... called "The Bees Knees" --- I hope you'll check out Shirley's wonderful line of stamps.

Twelve Tags of Christmas ... Day Two

Hi everyone.  Welcome to the second day of my "Twelve Tags of Christmas" Event.  For twelve days (Nov. 3 - 14) I will be posting a mixed media Christmas tag along with a tag made by a special Guest Designer.  We hope our tags inspire you!  Come join in the fun and link up your Mixed Media* Christmas tags below.

* For this event, Mixed Media is defined as stamps + ink, plus two other elements which add texture and/or dimension.

Tag #2

Here's how I made Tag #2:

This tag (2 1/8" x 3 5/8") was inspired by another one I saw on Pinterest.  It is sponged with Peacock Feather's Distress Inks with a little Evergreen Bough ink added to the edges.  Large and small snowflakes are randomly stamped all over the tag in pigment white ink.  A piece of drywall tape was cut to size, and then painted with silver acrylic paint.  The Christmas tree and three snowflakes are die-cut from white ... silver acrylic paint was sponged on the bottom edges of each layer of the tree die-cuts.  The sentiment is stamped, cut out and popped up on the tag ... and lots of small drops of dazzling details glitter glue was added for sparkle.  A white and silver ribbon finishes the tag.

Today's special Guest Designer is Kylie (Kylie is Addicted to Stamps) ... she really is!! :) Most of you probably already know Kylie ... but in case you don't, let me fill you in.  She is the owner to two challenge blogs --- Addicted to Stamps and More; and Addicted to CAS (I’m on both Design Teams – yay!).  Ane she runs a new stamping forum called Happy Little Stampers where members share info on supplies, techniques, and anything else that comes to mind.  Kylie is also on the design teams for Inspired by Stamping, and STAMPlorations.  She is busy, busy, busy!! ... and she makes the most beautiful cards.  She is a master of colouring, specializing in Spectrum Noir markers … and she is just starting the foray into mixed media and loving it!

Twelve Tags of Christmas ... Day One

Hi everyone.  Well it's finally here --- yay!  :)  I'm so happy to have my Christmas Tag Event starting.

Over the next twelve days, I'll be sharing one Mixed Media Christmas tag each day that I've made.  My tags are small (2 1/8" x 3 5/8"), but they have lots of fun elements.

Several of my wonderfully talented and creative friends are joining me for this event. Each of them has a unique and creative style that I'm sure will inspire you (as they have inspired me!).  I'll have a new Guest Designer joining me for each of the twelve days.

I hope that you'll follow along and be inspired to make some tags of your own. Come play along with our fun Mixed Media Christmas tag event and link up below.

Tag #1

Here's how I made Tag #1:

I sponged the tag with Antique Linen and Brushed Corduroy distress inks.  I overlayed the Starburst stencil and sponged more Brushed Corduroy on top.  I inked my Season of Joy (SU!) stamp with Vintage Photo distress ink and stamped at the top of the tag. The flourish is a die-cut (Flourish #6 by Crafty Ann), cut from olive card stock, sponged more olive ink around the edges, and then coated with Granular gel medium.  The poinsettia was cut with my Silhouette Cameo from red card stock, and then coated in red glitter glue to give it some sparkle.  I added gold liquid pearls and gold stickles to the center of the poinsettia.  To finish I used a red stain ribbon.

My first guest designer is Susan (aka susanbri at Splitcoast Stampers - SCS).  Susan and I met through SCS, and soon found out that we lived in the same city. :)  We are both CAS gals at heart, but we have a mutual admiration for the fancy Christmas tags. Susan doesn't have a blog, so I am including a link to her tag in her gallery at SCS, where you can find all the details on how she made the gorgeous tag below.  I hope you'll also check out her gallery of beautiful creations.  FYI, you need to be a SCS member in order to leave comments in Susan's gallery, so if you're not, please feel free to leave a message for Susan on this post ... I will make sure she sees them! :)

Here's Susan's tag ...

Susan, you are the one that inspired this event. :)  After we talked about all the beautiful mixed media Christmas tags on Pinterest, I couldn't wait to get started creating.  And after making several tags, the idea of having a tag event was born ... thank you, dear friend!! :) xx
