Snowy Christmas Night ... Take 2

Hi everyone.  Made this card last week, but only finding a little time now to post it ... life has been very busy! :)

Here's a CASE of a card I made a while back for Speed Challenge #2.  I didn't time myself for this card ... but I'm pretty sure I was over the 10 minutes mark again :) I changed up the design slightly, making a smaller panel and having more white space. I also used a smaller sentiment ... and two trees that I had in my "extras" box (always good to use up some of those!).  :)

I do like this design and color combo and so wanted to make another Christmas card (this one will get donated).  Supplies are listed below ... for how to's please check my original card HERE.

There's a new challenge up at Speed Challenge (#3) ... haven't had time to play yet, but I'm hoping to soon.  Hope you'll check out this fun challenge ... there are amazing inspiration cards made by the design team!

Stamps:  Joyful Greetings (Paper Smooches); Snowflake stamp from Patterned Pines set (SU)

Snowy Christmas Night

Hi everyone.  Today's card is for a fun challenge over at my friend, Ingrid's blog (Ingrid's Crafts Corner).  Ingrid and four of her very talented friends have gotten together to create a time challenge ... make a card in 10 minutes (or show how much you've gotten done in the allotted time).  You can organize your craft supplies and have them handy before you start ... and I noticed on reading their blogs, some of them used die-cuts or embellishments that they had in their "extras" box (you know what I'm talking about ... embellishments that were made and never got used but we can't throw them away).  We all have those. :)

The challenge is being hosted by Ingrid this time ... and she picked turquoise as her inspiration color ...

I wanted to join in the fun after seeing the beautiful cards made by this team!

Whew!!  I was going a bit crazy, but it was fun too! :)  At the 10:00 minute I had everything done except for the sentiment (actually forgot to get it out ahead so stopped my clock and went and got my stamp, embossing buddy and embossing powder).  Started the clock again, stamped and embossed the sentiment and then mounted my card front on to my base.  In the end it took me 11:47 to finish :)

Here's how I made the card ...

Sponged a card front with Peacock Feathers distress ink.  Took several paper towels folded into a thick pad, added lots of water, and then used that as a stamp pad ... "inking" a snowflake stamp with water and stamping all over the distress ink background.  I was hoping that more of the actual snowflake design would show, but I like the look of the watery background.

Die-cut a snowflake border and added it to the bottom, along with two die-cut silver glimmer paper trees (which are popped up for dimension).

I stamped the sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed in white, adding a small snowflake (discard from the border die-cut).

That's it ... a clean and simple Christmas card.  I think if I was to make it again, I'd probably make a smaller front panel ... so there's more white space. You know how I love my white space. :)  And I'd make sure the card front was dry.  I wanted to take the picture right away and you can see in the photo that it's a bit warped because it was still wet from the water stamping when I attached it to the card base :)  After it dried, I added a pop dot undernearth and that took care of the warping.

Thanks to Ingrid, Donna, Keren, Nikki, and Pamellia for the inspiration ... I hope you'll check out their blogs to see what they made for this challenge.

Blue and White Christmas Cards

A couple of cards to share with you today.  I actually made the background a couple of days ago, trying out the water stamping technique (click here for link to SCS tutorial).  I had made this type of background before (see last post with pond), by dropping water from a squeeze bottle onto my sponged background.  But I wanted to try the other variation of stamping with water using a wet paper towel as the stamp pad.

I randomly sponged a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of Whisper white with Tempting Turquoise and Pacific Point inks.  Then I stamped snowflakes "inked" with water.  I had my paper towel quite wet, so the snowflakes blurred quite a bit ... I actually was really happy with the look.  I used the one sheet to make two cards.  This is for this week's CAS-ual Fridays Challenge (CFC65 - make a square card).  Hope you like.

"Joy to the World"

Stamps:  Flakier (GCS Artstamps); Merry and Bright sentiments (Amy R)
Paper:  White cardstock (Neenah); Whisper White (SU!)
Inks:  Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point, Versamark (SU!)
Accessories & Tools:  Big Shot, Postage Stamp Nestabilities die (Spellbinders), Star of Wonder die (Memory Box), sponges, paper towel, water, white embossing powder, heat tool, glue, and dimensionals

I randomly sponged Whisper White cardstock with Tempting Turquoise and Pacific Point inks.  I stamped the Flakier stamp using water as the ink.  I let it dry and then ran it through my Big Shot with the postage stamp die.  I cut out two other layers of postage stamp die from white cardstock and layered them with glue, adding the sponged layer on top (this creates a thick panel).

I stamped the sentiments in Versamark and embossed in white using my heat tool.  I die cut the largest star and added it the main panel, popping it up with dimensionals.  The main panel was mounted onto the card base, again popping it up to add depth.

Here's the second card using the leftover piece of sponged and water stamped background.  This card was inspired by this beautiful card by SusanBri at SCS.

"Snowy Hills"

Stamp:  Flakier (GCS Artstamps)
Paper:  White cardstock (Neenah), Whisper White (SU!)
Ink:  Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point (SU!)
Accessories & Tools:  Big Shot, Country Landscape and Star of Wonder dies (Memory Box), Sparkle Texture Effect (Martha Stewart), glue, and dimensionals

Die-cut the Country Lanscape from Whisper White cardstock and mounted onto my background paper.  Cut two more pieces to represent hills and mounted on top.  Placed a mask behind my scene to protect the background paper and added Sparkle Texture effect to the top of the hills, houses and trees.

Cut two more pieces of white cardstock the same size as my scene (4" square) and glued them together, adding the main panel on top (creating a thick panel).  Mounted the panel to the front of my card base, popping it up with dimensionals to add depth.  Glued the small Star of Wonder die to the top right hand corner.
