Belleek Rose

I'm in the studio with Heather today.  We're having lots of fun, laughs ... and of course, delicious home-made treats!!  Heather is not only a card-making enthusiast like me, but also loves to bake (like me!).  She frequently stops by with treats for us to enjoy - we are so lucky!  This morning I made Lemon Loaf before she came ... the recipe is in the baking section of this website.  Heather showed up with brownies with oreo cookie centers ... and chocolate and coconut mini cupcakes - yum, yum!

On to the card for today ... it's Sketch Challenge day at SCS (SC375) and I made a card that is a little different for me.  Used the same die-cuts as I did for my card on Mar. 5th (Blushing Rose), plus more die-cuts and embossing folder.  Used the Faux Letterpress Technique, with a twist ... the Belleek Pottery look that Judy challenged us to a couple of weeks back on the Ways To Use It Challenge.  Absolutely love this look ... I used some Barely Banana with White cardstock for a very subtle look.  I also used the same embossed Belleek cardstock to make the rose

Unfortunately the texture and color doesn't show up in the photo very well.  I've tried several times to get a good photo and finally decided to just go with what I had.  The rose if a very soft, delicate yellow, but it looks white in the photo and you can't really see the texture either.

Stamp:  On the Grow - sentiment (SU!)

Paper:  Whisper White, Certainly Celery (SU!)

Ink:  Barely Banana, Certainly Celery (SU!)

Accessories & Tools:  Cuttlebug "Textiles" embossing folder, rubber brayer, Big shot, Rolled Rose die-cut (C.C. Designs), Leaves die-cut (C.C. Designs), Savannah border die-cut (Memory Box), Madera corner die-cut (Memory Box), sponge, small oval punch, medium oval punch, Tombow glue, sticky strips, adhesives and dimensionals

I inked my rubber brayer with Barely Banana ink and rolled over the inside of the embossing folder.  I placed a large piece of Whisper White cardstock inside and ran through my Big Shot.  This inks the recessed areas of the cardstock, leaving the embossed (or raised) parts the original cardstock color.  I actually made two pieces like this and then used the second piece to die-cut the rolled rose.

I rolled the rose and secured it together with Tombow glue.

I die-cut two Savannah borders from Certainly Celery cardstock, sponged them with more Certainly Celery ink and then glued them to the embossed card front (I cut some off of both pieces to make them shorter).

I die cut three "Leaves" from Certainly Celery, sponged the edges with more of the same color ink and then placed them where the two borders intersected - creating a triangle with the three leaf sprigs.

I die-cut the Madera corner with Certainly Celery and then cut off three "stems".  I place a dot of glue at the base of each stem and added them on top of the larger leaves, also using three and creating a triangle shape (but offset from the triangle of the larger leaves).  Hope that makes sense.  

I added the rolled rose on top, popping it up with dimensionals to add more depth.

I stamped the sentiment with Certainly Celery ink onto Whisper White cardstock.  I sponged around the edges with Barely Banana ink.  I punch the sentiment with the small oval punch and then framed it with a medium-sized oval of Certainly Celery cardstock.  I mounted the framed sentiment onto the card front, popping it up with dimensionals to add depth.

I mounted the card front onto a full card front of Whisper White cardstock.  I mounted the complete card front onto a card base of Certainly Celery cardstock (for stability).

Pink Posy

Here's a second CAS card using this week's Color Challenge (CC365 - Very Vanilla, Wild Wasabi, Blushing Bride).  I'm using another one of my new Memory Box dies that I recently purchased.

Ink:  Wild Wasabi

Accessories & Tools:  Designer Frame embossing folder (SU!), Wildflower Patch die-cut (Poppy Stamps), white Baker's twine, Tombow glue and adhesives

I ran a large piece of Very Vanilla through my Big Shot with the Designer Frame embossing folder.

I ran the Wildflower Patch die-cut through the Big Shot twice ... once with Wild Wasabi cardstock and once with Blushing Bride DP.  I cut the heads from four pink flowers and glued them onto the Wild Wasabi base.  I attached the flowers inside the oval frame using Tombow glue, creating a posy.

I stamped the sentiment with Wild Wasabi ink and added a small, white Baker's twine bow to the posy.  The card front was mounted onto a card base of Wild Wasabi.

I have to share a picture of my mom's new dog.  Noodle ... yes, that's his name ... is a 'rescued' seven year old Golden Retriever.  He's in a happy place now and will be showered with love and affection.

Blushing Rose

I was so thrilled and honored to get a private message from Betty at SCS, asking if I would be interested in being a Guest Designer for the month of March for the Color Challenge Team!  A fabulous opportunity to work with the other talented members of the team (Betty, Julia, Joanne, Peggy, Vicki, Karen and Mary).

I am really looking forward to creating cards to (hopefully) inspire others to join in the weekly Challenges.  It's so much fun!!

Congrats to Bridget Finlay who is also Guest Designing this month for the Color Team.  I have long admired her incredibly beautiful and artistic cards.

Here's my card for this week's Color Challenge (CC365 - Very Vanilla, Wild Wasabi, Blushing Bride).

"Blushing Rose"

Paper:  Very Vanilla, Wild Wasabi, Blushing Bride DP (Just Add Cake) (SU!)

Ink:  Wild Wasabi

Accessories & Tools:  Rolling Rose die-cut (C.C. Designs), Savannah border die-cut (Memory Box), Itty Bitty flower punch (SU!), pink half-pearls, Tombow glue, mat pack, stylus, and adhesives

I ran the Blushing Bride DP through my Big Shot with the Rolling Rose die-cut.  I rolled the rose and used Tombow glue to hold the bottom in place.  I placed a medium-sized half pearl in the center of the rose.

I ran Wild Wasabi cardstock through my Big Shot with the Savannah border die-cut twice; one I left whole, the other was used to cut leaves for under the small blossom by the sentiment and for the blossom on the inside panel.

I punched small flowers from the Blushing Bride DP, placed them on the sponge part of the mat pack and used a stylus to press gently around the middle of the flower until it formed a cup shape.  I placed a mini, pink half-pearl in the center of each flower.

I used small drops of Tombow glue to mount everything onto the Very Vanilla card front.  I mounted the card front onto a card base of Wild Wasabi for stability.

Simply Soft in Turquoise

Today I held a workshop with my friend Frances and three of her Dragon Boat team members.  It was a lot of fun and they each made four beautiful cards before heading home.  Thanks to Sally, Melinda, Lonnie and Frances for joining me in the art studio today!  And thanks for all the lovely goodies that you brought for us to snack on!!

I found a website that is devoted to Clean and Simple cards and they have a weekly challenge that I thought I'd join.  This challenge site has been around for a while, but new to me.  So today's card is for the sketch challenge FTL180 for the Clean & Simple challenge.  It also qualifies for Friday's Free For All Challenge (F4A106) - True Blue Flowers.  Hope you like.

"Simply Soft in Turquoise"

Stamps:  Simply Soft, Vintage Labels (SU!)

Paper:  Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White, Everyday Enchantment DP (SU!)

Ink:  Kiwi Kiss, Tempting Turquoise (SU!)

Accessories & Tools:  3/8" stitched turquoise ribbon (Michael's), 1/4" Lucky Limeade designer brad, hole punch, adhesives and dimensionals

I made a pencil line across my Whisper White cardstock just below where the top of the DP would be ... just so I could gauge here my flowers would end.

I stamped the three flowers in Kiwi Kiss ink and then colored in the flower petals with a Tempting Turquoise Stampin' Write marker.  I attached the DP to the bottom of the card front and wrapped the ribbon around, tying a half knot off to one side.  I mounted the card front onto the card base of Tempting Turquoise.

I stamped the sentiment in Tempting Turquoise ink onto a scrap of Whisper White and trimmed the piece to 1/2" wide by approx. 1 1/2" long.  I cut a "V" at the one end and punched a hole at the other for the designer brad.  I threaded through the brad and then mounted the sentiment on the card front, popping it up with dimensionals to add depth.
