More play with Distress Oxides

Hi everyone.  More playing with my new Distress Oxides inks.  They react so differently than any product I've used so far.

I love the colours of the background and it is a good example of how you can layer MANY different colours of ink and they all show.  I pressed two colours onto my craft mat, spritzed with water and smooshed onto a piece of watercolour paper. Dried with my heat tool, and repeated, adding different colours each time.  I used six different colours and the amazing thing is that you can see all of them.  Very cool!

I added a simple die-cut (layered with black foam for added dimension) and sentiment to finish the card.  I'm learning lots just playing with these fun inks. :)

First Play with Oxides

Hi everyone.  Received my Distress Oxides in the mail today. :)  So excited!!  I wasn't going to get them because I have been spending lots of $$ on stamp supplies lately, but caved yesterday and placed the order.  I couldn't believe they arrived today. :)

So this is my first play.  They are so unique and it will take me a while to figure out all the different ways to use them.  For the card above, I just swiped three colours (Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade, Worn Lipstick) directly onto a mixed media paper card front.  Just little swipes of colour here and there.  Sprayed with lots of water and let it run.  Used my heat tool to speed up the drying, and then splattered water droplets (ghosting).  Used Walnut Stain to stamp my image and sentiment. Easy and fast card.

Since my inks are brand new, I'm heading over to join Darnell's April Fool's Day Boo-Boo & NBUS #11.  No boo-boos on this card, but NBUS inks. :)

CAS Watercolour April Challenge

Hi everyone.  Today is the launch of the new CAS Watercolour challenge for April.

This is such a pretty colour combination.  I started by heat embossing this pretty image in white on mixed media paper.  Zigs were used to watercolour the flowers using a damp brush.  I used a soft gray zig to outline the flowers, spreading out the colour with a damp brush.  It seems to give the flowers a bit of a lift from the page. To finish, the sentiment was stamped in soft gray ink.

We are excited to have Marcia (Marcia K Designs) are our Guest Designer this month.  Marcia won our February challenge - Love.  Welcome Marcia!

I hope you'll have time to check out the challenge blog.  There's lots of inspiration from our wonderful Design Team and our special Guest Designer.

And I hope you'll come play along.  Just remember to keep you design CAS (Clean and Simple) and include watercolouring following our challenge of Green & Pink!

CAS Mix Up April Challenge

Hi everyone.  Another month has started which means it's a new challenge at CAS Mix Up.  Bonnie is our host and she has come up with a fun challenge ...

This month we want to see stamping, inlaid die-cutting and one other technique or product (use the list on our right hand sidebar of the challenge blog for ideas).

I do love poppies. :)  I die-cut them from hot press watercolour paper and sloshed on some diluted inks (Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Spiced Marmalade, Ripe Persimmon). Then I die-cut the same poppies from my smooshed watecolour background panel.  I carefully inlaid my orange poppies into the spaces.  I got them to fit just right and then added a few pieces of scotch tape to hold everything in place.  Sometimes I add a back panel and glue in my pieces, this time I took a short-cut. :)

The sentiment banner was stamped in Delicata Gold ... love this gold ink ... it's so metallic and sparkly without having to heat emboss.  I popped up the panel onto my card base to give it a bit of dimension.

My CAS Mix Up card has stamping, inlaid die-cutting, smooshing, and watercolouring.

We excited to have Maria (White Mood) as our Guest Designer this month.  Maria won the CAS Mix Up February Challenge - Corrugated Cardboard.  Welcome Maria!

I hope you'll have time to check out the challenge blog to see the gorgeous inlaid die-cut cards from the rest of our Design Team and our Guest Designer.  You will be inspired!
