Penny Black - Courier

Hi everyone.  Today I'm sharing a card using the new die from Penny Black - Courier (51-734).  I've also used one of the new stamps from the So Thankful set (30-914), masking off a bit to have a simple "Thanks".

Before I created the bird on the branch, I worked on the background.  This is a stencil monoprint of the Penny Black Promenade stencil (25-001), which I've had for ages. :)  For the stencil monoprint, I randomly pressed two colours of distress inks (Peeled Paint, Chipped Sapphire) onto the stencil; spritzed with water and then flipped the wet side of the inky stencil onto a piece of mixed media paper.  I blotted with paper towel (which keeps the cutout of the stencil design clean white), leaving the background with lots of colour.  This is my favourite stencil technique. :)

Blotting all the excess ink and water created a soft, dreamy looking leavy background for my lovely bird on a branch die, which I sponged with more Chipped Sapphire distress ink on the bird's body, along with two shades of brown ink for the branch.  I die-cut a second bird, using just the wing to glue on top of my bird to add dimension.

Penny Black - Mama Bear

Hi everyone.  I'm sharing another of the newer release from Penny Black.  This stamp is called Mama Bear (30-908).  I stamped in black ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder before watercolouring with Distress Inks.

I masked the bears before adding some sponged stenciling to the background using the Penny Black Honeycomb Stencil (25-012) with more Distress Inks (Mustard Seed, Wild Honey).

To finish, I added a sweet sentiment (Penny Black's Family Sentiments 30-555), stamped in black and heat embossed in clear to match the image.  I some how managed to get some stray drops of brown ink onto my card front ... so I went with that and added brown splatters so it looks like it was intentional. :)

I'm sending this card to the Just Us Girls Challenge #639 - Mammals.  I'm so happy to play along!

And, I'm also sending this over to the Penny Black Saturday Challenge for July.

July CAS Christmas Challenge - Santa

Hi everyone.  It's the start of the CAS Christmas challenge for July.  This month's challenge is hosted by the mega-talented Barb (Barb's Studio Creations).  So happy to have Barb back at CAS Christmas after being off for a while.  Welcome back BARB!

I started with a background I made last year during a Zoom call with my crafty friends.  We did "night skies" on watercolour paper with brushos.  Click HERE to see the first card I made using one of these backgrounds..  I simply stamped my new-to-me Christmas Night (Lavinia) stamp in black ink and heat embossed with clear to make it stand out more against the dark sky colours.  I tore a piece of white card stock, added crystal glaze along the torn edge and then sprinkled with glitter.  To finish, I stamped the sentiment (Christmas Sentiments - Gina Marie Designs) in black ink, clear heat embossed and then popped the whole panel up on my card base.

You can see the texture of the cold press watercolour paper that's been black heat embossed.  With having the background already in my stash, this made for a very quick and easy card. :)

Please check out the challenge blog to see the amazing cards by our wonderful Designers.  I know you'll be inspired to play along.

Remember to keep your card design CAS following the rules on our challenge sidebar.  Thank you!

I'm sending this over to NBUS #40 Challenge.  The santa and sleigh image is inked for the first time with this card ...

I used snippets for the background and for the snow, so I'm sending my card over to the Snippets Playground Challenge #431.

July CAS Mix Up Challenge - Things with Wings

Hi everyone.  Happy Canada Day!

It's the start of the July CAS Mix Up Challenge - Things with Wings.  This month is hosted by our talented Designer, Linda (Life in the Craft Lane).  This is a watercolouring challenge so watercolouring or watercolour technique must be included in the design.

I used a old stamp I've had for several years ... Fluttering by Memory Box (long retired).  I love this flight of butterflies.  Such pretty images with lots of movement.

I started with an Inka Gold background from my stash from long ago (Turquoise, Voilet).  I stamped my image on top and heat embossed in silver.  I pulled out my Inka Gold tubs that have all dried up.  I chipped away a couple of small pieces from the same two colours as the background and then misted them both with lots of water and used my palette knife to crush up the softened bits.  I ended up with some lovely shimmery paints.  I watercoloured the butterflies  and then left them to dry.  Happy with how they turned out.

I cropped my image to the size I wanted and popped it up the smaller panel on foam over my card base.  I stamped the sentiment (Oversized Smile - Waffle Flower) onto black card stock and heat embossed in silver.  Add the sentiment banner on top of my popped up panel to finish the card.
