Crackled Sunflower

Hi everyone.  We are already half way through August.  It's time for a reminder card for the CAS Mix Up August Challenge - Stencil Monoprint, being hosted by Nancy (scandinancy creates).

This is my all time favourite stencil that was gifted to me by sweet Bonnie.  I have used it over and over again.  I can always find a new way to use it, or different colours, or design.  LOVE IT!

This card is on the fence about being CAS ... but I have to say that it was a fairly simple design to make.  I'm counting all the white space of the sunflower as my open space. :)

I used three colours of distresss inks (Mustard Seed, Ripe Persimmon, Peacock Feathers) and swiped them on the back of my stencil.  I spritzed with water and then turned it over and placed it on top of a piece of watercolour paper.  I blotted with a paper towel to absorb any excess ink.  When finished, it leaves me with the background of the sunflower in the inky colours, and the sunflower plain.  I wanted to make the sunflower stand out more, so once everything was dry (and the stencil was washed off and dried), I placed the stencil back over top, lining up the image.  A layer of crackle paste was spread over the stencil.  I have tried three different crackle pastes, and the one used today is my favourite (Finnabair Crackle Paste).  To finish, the sentiment was heat embossed in white onto coloured card stock.

Here's a close-up ...
If you haven't had time to play along yet, I hope you'll give this a try and join us.  It's lots of fun.

Check out the challenge blog to see the reminder cards from the rest of our Designers, and our wonderful Guest Designer Cathy.

I'm also adding this to the CAS Watercolour Challenge - Sunflower.

And adding to the gallery at Craft Stamper - Take It Make It August Challenge.

Awesome technique with the reverse stenciling and then adding the crackle over the white space Loll - it accents it wonderfully - that IS one beautiful sunflower stencil! Love the white sentiment on the blue panel too! A gorgeous design! Julia xx

Beautiful - love the touch of blue in the colours of the monoprint and the way it ties in to the sentiment strip! I'd like to compare my crackle paste to your Finnabair next time we get together.

I love that amazing sunflower Loll. Looks spectacular with the crackle paste. I love that stuff! I also have glaze and I think you need a magnifying glass to see the tiny cracks (lol) Love the blue on the bottom with the sentiment - blends beautifully with your stenciling.

Wow, this card is so cool looking Loll! I am definitely love how your sunflower came out! The colors are so beautiful, but the crackle finish is what takes it over the top! Looking pretty CAS to me with all the white on the sunflower. I can see why this stencil is your favorite. I am loving it too! Hugs, Brenda

Gorgeous sunflower stencil monoprint, Loll! Love the soft and beautiful mixture of colors! And how creative to add crackle paste to the petals! Those crackles add so much interest to the flower in a subtle way. The solid blue sentiment panel anchors the sunflower. The simple and cohesive design with lots of crackled white space – I would definitely call this card CAS! :-) Hideko

I thought I had already commented on this incredible card, Lolly, but it must have been done in an email. I am putting this at the top of my Favorite Cards for 2018 list! I love the coloring, especially the unexpected peacock which is divine! And topping it with a layer of crackle was brilliant! WOW!! Hugs, Dolly
