Metallic Watercolour on Black

Hi everyone.  Today I'm sharing two cards I made following the YouTube video Metallic Watercolor on Black by Betsy Veldman.  This technique creates dramatic cards with just a few extra brushstrokes / details.  All the designs are done with watercolouring mediums that work on dark card stock.  I believe this technique could easily be used on any watercolour papers to add a little somethin' to your watercoloured images.

Love this technique and recommend you give it a try.  For the colour medium, I used Pearlescent Gouache paints, which I find to be subtle in colour, as well as not having a huge range of colours with my box of 12 from Arteza.  I mixed them with my regular Gouache paints to create more vibrant colours with a bit of sheen from the pearlescent.

Here's my second card, which is much simplier design.  Besides watercolouring the image, I have added some dots of bronze pearl paint around the image and splattered with diluted white gouache paint.
I'm sending the first card over to Penny Black Saturday Challenge - Anything Penny Black Goes.
And I'm sending the second card over to Peace on Earth Challenge #26.  LOVE this mood board.  This will be my second entry.  I love traditional colours for Christmas. :)

These are gorgeous, Loll! I never think to work on black and although I don't have those paints pencil works well on it too. This is a technique I must remember to try. Thanks for the inspiration!

This is a great look with the pearlescents on the black watercolour card Loll, and both the first with the snow settled on the cones, leaves and berries, and the other with just the falling snow, look beautiful, but for me the second simpler look is my favourite and the gold embossing on both really sings out against the black. A great idea to use your ordinary gouache to mix with the pearlescent gouache for a brighter finish. x

Two beautiful cards Loll - Thank you for mentioning that pearlescent paints can be used rather than 'metallic' I have quite a range of pearlescent colours in various forms

Oh, my. Today I received my first pad of black watercolor paper. I'm hoping it works with my Twinks and the few metallics in my Gansai Tambi paints. I will watch the video. Your cards are exquisite, Loll. I'm in awe. My jaw is dropped.
