Hi everyone. Today I am sharing two cards made for reminders of the CAS Mix Up Challenge - Sunflower. I put away my stamps this time and pulled out my watercolour paints and brushes and went for it. :)
I watched several videos on hand-painting sunflowers. I spent a few days painting and trying to figure out what the heck I was doing. :) All-in-all, it was fun. And I did learn what NOT to do. :)
I used Kuretake watercolour paints, Blick Masterstroke Brushes, and Arches 140 lb. cold press (best w/c paper you can buy here, according to my son, Jeremy).
For the above card, I kept the image very small and die-cut with a medium-sized circle. The sentiment is Penny Black Happy Snippets, stamped in Ground Espresso DOX ink.
I wanted to add a subtle background, so I ran my old olive cardstock through my embossing machine with the Laurel Leaves Background Plate (Simon Says Stamp - retired) with a silicone mat. I left the "sandwich" fairly thin so the leaves pattern just shows. I like it! :) You can see the background slightly better in the photo below.

I practised a litte more and about a week later, ended up with this version. Again, another small painting. I'm happier with this painting. :) I added a hello sentiment to finish. I used all the same paints and paper as the card above.

I love both versions Loll! Sunflowers are so pretty no matter what way you color them! And once again I am loving the bold color backgrounds that still shouts CAS and makes me wonder why I keep going for all white?! Two lovely, lovely cards my friend!! Hugs. :0)
Both are lovely sunflowers, but I agree with you - the second one is better. They are lovely with that green cs.
Your watercolouring looks amazing Loll and I love both your cards - so so pretty! xx
Well look at you, the artist. What wonderful sunflowers, I love the shading on each of them, they are standout cards, the embossed background is a wonderful foil too. x
Wow! These are both just gorgeous! What amazing talent you have to paint Loll. I would frame both of these. I like the green framing on them too. Beautifully done!
Loll, I love both versions and love that you've kept the framing that lovely green! This second little beauty belongs in a frame, my friend!

Gorgeous and simple!
They are both terrific, Loll. I hope you keep up with practicing your watercoloring, especially if you enjoy it.
I love these cards, the apertures really focus ones view. I especially like the square opening.
So pretty, Loll! The framed version is my favorite!
WOW! I'm impressed, Lolly! Your sunflowers are gorgeous! You certainly don't need a stamp! Beautiful little masterpieces!
These are really pretty, Loll! Congrats on mastering the sunflower freehand, both cards are amazing.
WOW! You are becoming quite the artist. Your sunflowers are beautiful and I love the green backdrops
I'm very impressed with your sunflower paintings! I love them both with their slightly different looks. The green with them is beautiful, and the subtle leaf impression on the first is a lovely touch. Bravo, Loll!
Such beautiful sunflowers, Loll - just love both cards!!
Love your cards Loll, and the progression in a week is stunning.
Blessings
Maxine
Both your sunflowers are delightful, but I can see why you are happier with the second one. It looks a little more refined and shows the effect of your extra practice. I am glad to hear that you are still practicing and enjoying the watercolour. I wish I could get round to using mine. I know I will need loads of practice, so I keep putting it off! xx
I love it. This loose watercolor is beautiful and unique. The radiant sunflower looks stunning against the olive background. Great inspiration for the CMU challenge.
xx
Two wonderful hand painted sunflowers Loll, and the first sits very happily over the green leaf embossed frame on the white card, and the second looks beautiful inside the green rectangular frame over the green base card...that is a very pretty shade of green and beautiful with the yellow of the sunflower. x
