Christmas Poinsettia

Hi everyone.  I looked at my box of Christmas cards this year and was surprised to see that I already have ten made :)  Looks like I'm keeping up with my plan to make at least one a week - yay!  So, continuing on, I used the challenge at Merry Monday (#148 - Red and Green) as my jumping off point for today's card.

And, I used Vicki's card from the current Muse Challenge (#107) for my layout and design.  I liked how Vicki has a vertical strip, with her blocks of patterned paper split to include a stamped sentiment within the strip.

Vicki's Muse card

I started by masking off the front of my card.  Then I placed a small piece of removable tape across where I wanted the sentiment to go.  I placed a leafy stencil over top and sponged Shabby Shutters distress ink.  I removed the masks and stamped my sentiment in red ink.

The poinsettia is die-cut with three layers from red cardstock.  I sponged around the edges of all the petals with red ink to give it some dimension.  Then I used my stylus and mat to shape the petals and assembled the flower with just little dabs of glue at the center.

This was a quick and easy card for me to make as I had the poinsettia already done and sitting in my unfinished project box.  Actually, it's boxes ... and no matter how many times I pull something out to put on a card, there seems to be three more going back in.  It's a loosing battle :)

Also wanted to remind everyone about the Happy Little Stampers March CAS Challenge - Sponging.  I use sponging on the majority of my cards.  Such an easy way to add colour, depth and dimension. :)

I love this card. The poinsettia looks so real due to your great coloring and shaping the petals. You have inspired me to make some Christmas cards throughout the year instead of starting in November as I usually do.

This is gorgeous Loll! Just gorgeous! I love your stenciling and I love that you left room for your sentiment in the middle. I am so loving that poinsettia too. You are doing good at keeping up with you Christmas cards. I am doing good too, and have been making at least two a month. So that is a huge deal for me because I never make them at this time of year. lol I hear you on the box thing, it is the same way for me too. lol Hugs, Brenda

I always love your stunning poinsettia cards, Lolly, and your sponging designs for HLS in the prior posts are sensational! Your CASE of Kylie's card would have been a winner for sure; it certainly is in my book!

I love the look of the new blog! I still have trouble being on it for long because the black background with bright colors are triggers for migraines, but it sure is pretty! I am ready to finish my year-old online watercolor class and THEN after next week's class on dies, I'll be set for Brushos. You mustn't give up on me!! I hope this finds you healing well!! Hugs, Dolly

Loll, My dear friend, I've fallen 10(yes, TEN) posts behind with commenting, but not with gazing and admiring in delight and awe at your wonderful creations. You know that everything you do sets my heart pitter-pattering and the ideas sparking...love them all immensely! I"m going to try my best to play at HLS in both the sketch and sponging (depending how the inks and I work together) challenges...so much fun! Your card here: gorgeous! And your new blog: lovely and stylish!

Love this very dimensional & blazing red poinsettia. I like the way you've designed the 'center border' - very intriguing look with this wonderful poinsettia. #2 is quite interesting & unique too, with the bold graphic patterns and the way you've done another center focal point. This is the first I've seen this kind of layout & really like it so much. TFS & Happy wkend. (Hoping I can finish up another mixed media entry. Been busy, but got it underway. Had fun experimenting too!) Hugs
