CAS Mix Up August Challenge

Hi everyone.  Today is the start of the CAS Mix Up August Challenge.  This month is being hosted by Nancy (scandinancy creates).  She has us using one of my favourite stencil techniques ...

This is such a fun and easy technique.  I had tried this years ago and failed miserably.  But when my friend Lee-Anne made a video tutorial, it just clicked for me.  Make sure to check out Lee-Anne's video tutorial HERE.

I used two colours of distress inks on my stencil, just swiping the colours randomly (scattered straw, abandoned coral).  I spritzed with water and then flipped the wet stencil over onto a piece of mixed media card stock.  I used a paper towel to blot up any excess ink.  I let it sit for a few minutes and then removed the stencil and blotted my panel again with a paper towel.  I ended up with a soft, dreamy design that I used for the shaped background for my card above.

I stamped the flower branch in Archival Sepia ink and then used more Abandoned Coral along with Vintage Photo Distress Inks to watercolour my image.

The sentiment is stamped in the Archival Sepia to finish.

Here's the close-up ...

We are thrilled to have Cathy (Cathy's Card Spot) as our Guest Designer this month.  Please check out the challenge blog to see the stencil monoprint cards by our Designers and wonderful Guest Designer, Cathy.  Then come play along.  Remember to keep your design CAS, include stencil monoprint, stamping, and one other item from our list on the challenge blog sidebar.  Hope to see you in the gallery!

This is one of my favorite techniques and one that even the kids just loved. Yours is so dreamy and has such an ethereal quality to it. I love that it's soft enough to stamp and add your wonderful watercoloring to the blossoms. Beautifully shaded.

Beautiful card Loll, love the dreamy background. This technique is so much fun, partly in the mystery of how it will look after you peel the stencil off! Cathy x

What a charming card! The stamp and stencil combo are perfect together and I like the soft colors. The tag die sets it all off beautifully. How you combine things is always so interesting and your coloring amazing.

I am swooning over this gorgeous card, Loll! I would have never paired those two colour DIs together, but they resulted in such a delicate monoprint background... so fitting for your beautifully watercoloured flower branch. xx

wow what a stunner this is. Just love your colour combination for the mono stencilling and for the flower. I need to get myself some of that archival sepia ink, love that as black can so often be too harsh. Wonderful

This is so soft, pretty, and dreamy, Loll! I would have never thought about stamping and watercolouring on the monoprint like this! I'll definitely try that this month. The sepia and the vintage photo add softness and the white card base is just there to show off your beautiful stencil monoprint and your watercolouring. Hideko xx

I'm so honored to have this lovely to gaze upon over and over again, Loll. Not to mention run my hand over the monoprint. I hadn't seen this post when the card arrived so I didn't know how you achieved that wonderful, soft flourishy background. Thanks so much for thinking of me.
