CAS Challenges October Reminder

Hi everyone.  We are now halfway through October so it's time for our reminders for our two challenges.  First up, CAS Mix Up October Challenge - Tone on Tone Stenciling, hosted by Viv.

Stencil Challenge

I really like how this tone on tone stenciling turned out.  I started with a piece of Island Indigo card stock (SU!).  I placed my stencil over top and sponged with Island Indigo ink.  I love the impact of the stenciling, even though it's a subtle tone-on-tone stenciling.  I wanted to try something different, so cut my stenciled piece into difference widths and adhered them to the bottom of my card front.

Over top I placed a die-cut large snowflake (top layer silver, 2 layers white underneath for added dimension).  I heat embossed the sentiment in silver to match.  It went bubbly.  Not sure why that happens some times.

Above is my CAS Christmas reminder card. I love this beautiful stamp that I received from a wonderful friend a long time ago.  It was orginally wood mounted, but I pulled it off so I could use it with my Misti.

I stamped the image in Versafine Black ink (waterproof).  I heat set to make sure it was dry before colouring with my zigs.  I was going to do that background wash first, but I was so excited to start painting that I completely forgot and was almost finished before I realized. :)

I knew that painting the background would be tricky, especially when there's red ink involved.  I tried to carefully add the blue, but right away I got red ink bleeding.  I decided to just go with it and make the whole image have a bit of bleed.  I'm really happy with how it turned out.  Another happy accident!

I hope you'll check out the challenge blogs to see the amazing cards from our Designers, Guest Designers, and participants.  If you haven't had time to play along, there's over a week left before both challenges close on 24th at midnight PST.  Come join us!

Two incredibly BEAUTIFUL cards Loll!! Your tone on tone card is perfection and I just love how you split the stenciled piece into 3 different widths! And the dark blue with the silver snowflake is such a striking combination!! I have to agree that the red bleeding on your bird card was indeed a happy accident...it totally goes with all the lovely colors you painted, and really makes for a bright and beautiful card!! Lovely, lovely cards my friend!! Hugs. :0)

Two very special cards, wonderful tone on tone on your first card. Cutting the panel really added interest so that idea worked really well. Can't see any bubbling on the heat embossing on the photo so don't worry about it. You are right with your second card, that red bleeding has added a special element to the image, I love it xx

The tone on tone is gorgeous and the silver snowflake is lovely. I like the bubbles, especially in champagne! It didn't hurt a thing when the red ink smeared. Just adds more of an artistic look. Great cards.

Your tone on tone with Island Indigo is gorgeous, Lolly! I love how you've cut it into different widths and the snowflake is awesome! I like the bubbled embossing and think it adds extra texture! Your Christmas birds are gorgeous and beautifully colored! Love that bit of red bleed in the wash and think it adds a great contrast with the blue! Two awesome cards, my friend!

Loll, your tone on tone card is amazing, I love it and that beautiful snowflake! Your birds are so precious, and your coloring is also amazing, so glad you had that happy accident, it really brings those berries alive and looks so artistic, just like you planned it!

What a beautiful silver snowflake on the first Loll, and love the tone on tone with the dark blue card which is so elegant with the silver, and the birds are so pretty on the second and love the way you have accentuated the red bleed which adds some lovely brightness to the background and a great contrast to the white of the rest of the card. x

Wonderful duo of winter cards, Loll.
Fabulous tone-on-tone stencilling and design on the first. Love the colour palette and that gorgeous snowflake die.
And on your second card, perfect image of a blue jay and cardinal for the challenge. Beautifully watercolored. To be honest, I probably would have never noticed the red bleeding.

Two beautiful cards Loll... Cutting the stenciled piece really does add something special to your first card and I really like the 'bleed' of paint behind your pretty birds...

Two lovely designs here Loll! Your tone on tone stenciling is beautiful and I love your idea of cutting up that panel, what a great look! Something so simple that you don't usually think to do. Sometimes if you heat certain embossing powders too much (too hot) they bubble. Others don't. maybe that's what happened - although I wouldn't have notice it on your card or thought it didn't look good (!) Your bird image is lovely such an intricate design made CAS with you framing it in a circle. The watery background worked out well! xx

Two beautiful cards. The first is so elegant, love the tone on tone panels and their placement. Complimented by the silver flake and sentiment...very classy. The second has beautiful merry colours, perfect for the festive season with such an appropriate sentiment. Two very special cards.

Your tone on tone is GORGEOUS, Loll! Wow! And your pretty bird with red bleeds works, maybe because the red is throughout the image but it works

Two really beautiful cards, Loll! I love your subtle tone-on-tone stenciling on the first card and how you placed the strips along the bottom. Your 'happy accident' on the 2nd card worked out perfectly, too...I also love how you colored the birds with your Zig markers! Barb xx

Gorgeous cards, Loll! I love that big snowflake (note to self: need more big snowflakes). The tone on tone stenciling is beautiful in this blue and I like the way you cut the borders. Beautiful birds, which I always love. It looks like you meant for the painting to come out exactly like that. It's gorgeous!

Two beauties, Loll ... the navy and silver are so striking and bold together ... gorgeous tone on tone! Love how you 'just went with it' on the watercoloured bird ... the halo's of colour around all the different elements give the whole scene a wonderfully magical look! Hugs, Anita :)

I LOve the tone on tone card design, Loll! Cutting up the stenciled piece with 3 different widths is fresh and so interesting, and the dark blue colors and the suede-like texture look awesome with the shiny silver snowflake.
And fabulous coloring all in the circle window of the Christmas birds card. The contrast with the white outside of the window draws the eye right to the bright scene. The happy accident bleeding turned out so well!
