Hi everyone. I LOVE alcohol inks for their vibrancy ... add gilding flakes and you have a winning combination!

Here's what I learned when I experimented with this technique ...
- It's best to stick with 2 colours of Alcohol Inks (or 3 colours in the same colour family) so that the background doesn't become too busy (my first card was really busy, but I found something that complimented it. Took me a while to figure it out. :)
- I found using a fine-tip glue bottle to add random lines of thin glue and then pressing gilding flakes lightly into the glue, worked the best to get the gilding flakes to stick. You need to let the glue dry completely before burnishing them to remove the excess. Only the last card in this post uses glue to stick the gilding flakes.

For the card above ...
When the gilding flakes wouldn't stick to my panel above, I added more rubbing alcohol and moved the ink around with my puffer tool, then quickly added flakes. Just a few stuck (silver) that you might see on the background. This piece turned out to be a very busy design even though I only used three colours of alcohol inks. Adding the large die-cut Laurel Leaves Background Plate (Simon Says Stamp), seemed to tone it down a bit. I'm happy with the finished card.

Below is a Christmas card using Poppfield, Watermelon, and Shell Pink alcohol inks to create this design. I added Verdigris gilding flakes as soon as I finished with the AIs and lots stuck this time. A die-cut (Layered Poinsettia from Penny Black) cut from real red card stock and sponged with real red ink around the edges finishes the card, along with sentiment (My Favorite Things - retired) stamped in delicata gold ink.

And, my last card ... I used Black Metallic Card for the base of my alcohol inks panel, smooshed with Pearl Alcohol inks. I used my fine-tip bottle to apply really thin lines of glue, pressed gilding flakes overtop (pressing lightly) and then left it to dry for an hour. Brushed off the excess and am happy with how it turned out. Definitely an easier way for me to get the gilding flakes to stick. :)
The Lake Loon die - Gina Marie Designs is cut from gold metallic card stock. It is popped up with foam and placed over the AI/Gilding Flakes panel onto a black card base. To finish I stamped Happy Birthday and heat embossed with Princess Gold embossing powder.

Three fabulous cards, Loll. You got great results with sticking the gilding flakes to the AIs on the second card. I love the third card - the blue and gold are so striking against the black.
The alcohol ink on the second card look like slightly out of focus flowers, a very intriguing look. It is a fun technique that I've tried using foil but not gilding flakes, time for a play? :)
Three such different cards, Loll. I love all of them. The first one is so colorful and has a beautiful contrast with the silver die-cut frame. The second card has the ephemerality of a poppy field. I love the effect of light shining through the red background. Gilding adds elegance. The third card seemed to be left for dessert, a real gem. The background is just amazing and works so beautifully with this die. I love this card!

So very lovely, Loll! At the moment, it's too cold to have a window cracked open for those fumes but I know I'll be tempted to try this! Hey! I even own some gilding flakes!

Three very different looks and all of them gorgeous, Loll. I really like the bright colors on the first one and the moodiness of the last one done on black. I do have a few gilding flakes so hope to try this soon.
Three fantastic cards, Loll! They're all pretty -- the first with the silver copverplate sets the vibrancy to more relaxed; the second is a beautiful match between your reds and the gold, but that third card makes my heart pitter-patter! Wow, it's gorgeous! Subtle AIs on black, set off perfectly by your pretty gold panel and die.

Wonderful trio of cards Loll - the pink AI background almost looks like abstract flowers... the silver accented on is fabulous, but the one that made my heart flutter is the last one on the black - that is absolutely amazing, and with the gild die cut over it, breathtaking!

This is a wonderful mix of colors and designs. I love the colors on the first card that all blended together so beautifully. The silver leaves look so pretty against that background. The Christmas card is lovely and those pearl AI are stunning with the gold gilding flakes. The die cut loon is so perfect over the AI background. You nailed this technique.

I love all 3 of these cards. They are all so different and wonderful examples of the technique. I haven't had my alcohol inks out for a while. If the alcohol ink is sticky enough you can also use foil. I have done that in the past but never gilding flakes. Must try it xx
These are all gorgeous, Loll and although you didn't seem happy with that first colorful one I just love it. It reminds me of fall and LOVE that you were able to keep the colors from turning into mud. Thanks for the tips and tricks too!

Wowie, the things you do with alcohol inks and dies, sigh... Your color choices are beautiful. I'm especially fond of the background colors in the first card. There is a lot of depth and interesting pattern in the second card, and the final card has all that dark intrigue. What a beautiful die that is, too. Love them all!
