Hi everyone. Today at Group of Cardmakers, we are sharing our experimenting of Embossing with Dies. This is a super simple technique that uses your dies and makes them into an embossed image. :)
Check out the post at Group of Cardmakers for links to wonderful videos and more sample cards from Christine, Pat, & Susan.
First up, my fav card of this post ... a pretty Peace Rose. I watercoloured the rose in colours of a Peace Rose that I had in my garden at my last house. The bloom was a delicate pink. The edges turn to soft yellow when it opens. I stamped my flower in black ink, heat embossed in clear; then watercoloured using Distress inks. I used the matching die to cut it out before mounting it on my debossed background of a pretty leaf die.

A Christmas card featuring a holly die. I created a deboss of the holly image for the background, then die-cut the same die from Mixed Media paper and watercoloured, placing it over top. A simple sentiment is added to finish the card.

I've made two cards using a postage frame die. And I used it two ways, embossed with the cut side of the die showing a thin outline; and debossed with the backside of the die recessed (thicker outline). That is a bonus to this technique. With most dies, you can use either side of the embossed image depending on the look you want. See below two cards using the same die but different sides of the embossed impression.
Thin outline of die (embossed)
Thick outline with die (debossed)
One more card with a different way of doing this technique. Sorry for the long post, but as you can tell, I had a lot of fun playing! :)
This time I used a stamp and matching die to stamp the flower onto mixed media paper, heat embossing in silver. Then I watercoloured the image using Distress re-inkers. I finished by placing the matching die over top of the image, but instead of cutting it out, I embossed the image so that my stamped image has it's own outline. This also adds texture and a bit of dimension to my otherwise flat card. :) It's subtle in the photo above, but so pretty IRL. :)

Bonus ... you can take a lot of your dies and turn them into embossed images, then use the same die to cut matching stencils to use over top of your images. Lots and lots of options!
Thanks for stopping by!

Loll, I love all your cards - so bright and beautifully colored! I think this technique is great for keeping the bulk down for mailing - but I'm mad for the 'debossed' image you got using the back side of the die! Wowzers! I hope I remember that one!
=]
Well this post is filled with lots of beautiful eye candy! All these CAS cards are beautiful! Great use of embossing too 😀
Wow Loll, what beautiful cards. I love that Peace Rose and the embossed leaves make a great background, and a similar idea on that pretty holly and berry branch, and the last two showing the embossed and debossed postage edge die surrounding the wonderful vase of flowers and the cute little Christmas teddy. x
Sorry, there was a fifth one which is equally beautiful, and a great idea to use the matching die to give it an embossed outline, and so prettily coloured as are they all! x
Wow, what an array of beautiful cards using the embossed and debossed dies. I love them all and especially your coloring on each one. That Peace Rose is beautiful. Love the holy leaf colored image and debossed die. That bear is so cute and ready for Christmas.
absolutely gorgeous die impression on your cards, I really love the holly one, It's such a pretty CAS design. I also love the effects with both sides of the postage stamp die, now I'll have to try the other side 😍
What a wonderful collection of examples for that technique. We really should use it more often as you have beautifully demonstrated what wonderful results you can get. I can see why the first one is your favourite. I think it is mine too xx
You showed off that technique in so many wonderful ways on so many beautiful cards, Loll. The dimension you get with the embossing adds so much to a simple image, elevating the card's wow factor.
What an impactful technique. Love seeing all the styles.
Don't ever apologize for a long post Loll...especially not when I didn't want the post to end because each card got prettier and prettier! I love your Peace rose with the soft pink & yellow colors and the debossing underneath...sooooo lovely!! Your holly card and teddy bear postage cards are both delightful as is your last floral card too! Wonderful cards my friend...LOVED them all!! Hugs. :0)
These are absolutely phenomenal and beautiful! Wow, you've officially made my jaw drop!
I don't mind a long post when the content is so beautiful Loll - it's obvious you have had fun with this technique, and you have inspired me :) Thank you. Just wish I could colour as well as you :)
Blessings
Maxine
What a beautiful set of cards!
What a great technique to use dies for embossing. I've done that in the past with both dies and hot foil plates. All of your cards are beautiful, I couldn't possibly pick a favorite. I love how you used the back side of a die to emboss as well. That's a great trick that I'll have to try. This was a fantastic post, and I was happy to see all your beautiful cards!
Wow, what gorgeous cards! Love them ALL! So much wonderful inspiration here!!
Each and every one of these cards is gorgeous, Lolly! I love the texture the embossing adds and that it can be used to outline the stamp too! I don't think I can pick a favorite as all of these are so pretty!
Your cards show how we can use our dies in different ways to enhance our cards, as you have done so beautifully on each card. x
No need to apologise at all Loll, a fab selection of cards, all beautifully coloured with just that little bit of added interest. Great inspiration. :)
WOW! WOW! WOW! These all look amazing, and what a fun technique. I do love it when craft items can be used for more than they are designed for. I must give this a go! xx
I'm glad you could pick a favorite, Lolly, because I sure can't! Every time I thought it's THAT one, I scrolled down and found a new favorite! Each one is beautiful and you did an excellent job of showing just how versatile the embossed dies are and they can be used to add wonderful texture and dimension to designs. And, of course, your painting is always perfection! Thank you for using this week's I.D.E.A.S. Calendar and linking again in the gallery! Love, Dolly
Beautiful stuff, Loll! From the Peace rose, all the way to the Pinkfresh flowers at the end they're amazing examples of this fun technique. I never thought of flipping the die for a different look. I keep scrolling up and down... so much to admire here!
What a fun technique adding such lovely texture to your card designs Loll! They are all pretty but I think my fav is the last one with that lovely stem and blooms! Julia xx
Wow! This are all terrific and different using the same technique. I love every one.
Oooo - cool technique & I love your examples, Loll! Never think to emboss with my press plates - will have to try it!
All these cards look amazing and I have never tried embossing with dies - Thanks for the inspiration :) xx
