Foiling

Hi everyone.  I broke down and bought a laminator.  :)  I was on the fence about it for a while, but I'm glad I went ahead.  Had a play day a couple of days ago with Christine, Susan and Trina.  One of the things we did was play with Christine's laminator and we figured out what way works best for us.  We watched a few videos, and in the end we tried the gel transfer, heat and stick powder, and white embossing powder.  The gel transfer was the only way we got consistently good coverage.  And we used a carrier sheet (piece of copy paper folded in half) to get it smoothly through the machine.

I had a snippet of black brushos background in my stash.  Over top, I stenciled speckles using the gel transfer medium and palette knife.  It had to dry clear before I could add my foil (about 1/2 hour as I put a thin coating on).  I added copper foiling which I think worked perfectly.  Also die-cut the leaf sprig and using double sided adhesive.  Added the copper foil over top.  The shine from the foiling is incredible!

Here's a close-up ...
My friend Mac (Sweetest of Peas) is Guest Designing this month at The Male Room, so I wanted to play along.  I do make a fair amount of masculine cards so need to check out this challenge more often! :)

Since I used snippets for my brusho panel and a snippet for the die-cut leaf, I'm heading over for a visit to the Playground.  Haven't been there for a while.  I hope they remember me! :)

Wow, gorgeous results! We have tried this but had not luck with it. Yours is incredibly beautiful! Not sure I tried the transfer gel but since I have some you inspired me to try again. Thank for that!

It's beautiful, Loll - wonderful rich colours in the foil and in the brushos background. And a perfect masculine card with that black card base.

Oh, Yes...the copper foiling is AMAZING, Loll! It's exactly what this panel needed...Your card is absolutely stunning! I also love that you mounted your panel on black, too...it really pops!

Thanks so much for sharing your tips about which products work best...I am also on the fence about buying a laminator, and after seeing your results, I think I may become hooked on using it :)

That is stunning, Loll. I’ve not tried transfer gel but now really want to give it a go.
Please could you advise me if you foil the leaf separately and adhere it at the end?
Thanks, Loll.

That's amazing. My husband also have a laminator, but I haven't enough time for experiments. Pity!

Ok Loll, you’ve me hooked on this technique!
I already own a laminator as needed one for its own purpose, and so think the cosmic shimmer tacky glue made to use with Gilding flakes will work for spatter and double sided tape for the die cut.... that really sounds like a plan to try this!!!
Thanks for sharing, don’t worry your “been away” note to Miss will explain your absence just fine, and we’ll never forget your smile 😃
Happy snippets Loll... of the gilded variety!

This is gorgeous Loll, the foiling looks amazing against that background.
I haven't done much foiling, one of my Sweet Poppy team mates does amazing foiled stencil designs using the Glossy Black stencil paste and a laminator, which I keep saying I must get around to trying. I actually bought the Crafters Companion foiling machine just before Christmas but as yet I haven't had much success with it ..... I have only used it once or twice though. Too much to do and not enough time to do it!!
Have a lovely weekend my friend xx

HI Loll...Thank you so much for the shout out my friend x.
Such a striking card, with a wonderfully atmospheric brusho background. The copper foil is the perfect combination with the brusho powder and Wow does it just pop off the screen. Love the two different techniques of adding the foil. A very striking, unique and fabulous masculine card x.

This is just beautiful. The brusho background made a gorgeous sky and the copper foil just shines against it. Thanks for saying how long to leave the transfer gel before adding foil.

Your card is amazing Loll and I can't believe how beautifully you captured the shine of the copper in the one photo! I have a couple rolls of foil that I've had for years (can't remember why I even bought it now!!), so I guess I'm going to have to buy a laminator now after seeing your lovely cards!! Thanks for sharing and enabling my friend!! :0)

Wow Loll, what a stunner! I have been wanting a laminator for a while now to do foil techniques. Looks like I want one even more. lol It will be a while though. I am loving your card, it is so stunning, so vivid is that shinny gold/copper color. Your brusho background is amazing! I was just looking at the black brusho on Amazon and loved it. Love it even more now that I see it on your card! So on my wish list it went. Now if I could just get Bret to shop off my wish list. lol Amazing card my friend! Hugs, Brenda

This is one of the most beautiful cards I've seen lately. Great contrast and amazing background for your golden twig. Thank you for sharing this miracle with us. I love this card.
You betrayed the secret that you bought a laminator. Have you already tried gilding on a laser printer printout? I wonder if you also have a problem to get a uniform transfer of gilding to the printout ...?

Loll said...

Hi BozenA. I don't have a laser printer so not able to try the foil with it. I have heard that it works. xx
