Hello Leaves

Hi everyone.  Time for a reminder for the CAS Mix Up February Challenge - Dimensional Die-cuts, hosted by our wonderful Hideko.

I started by die-cutting my leaf sprig three times (twice from white card stock, once from acetate to use as a stencil).  I softly sponged my leaves over the background using the stencil, changing the angle of the leaves to create a random design.  I think having the leaves in the background helps create a sense of depth.

With the two white card stock die-cuts, I sponged one completely using dark brown, light brown and rust.  The second sprig had only the leaves sponged.  I used my stylus and foam mat to add a curve to the single leaves.  Then layered them on top of the sprig, off-setting them slightly from the bottom leaves and adding a rolled glue dot at the tip of the leaf for dimension, while gluing the base of the leaf flush.

A simple white frame was popped up over the stenciled background and the layered leaf die-cut was added on top with a sentiment stamped in rust to finish.

Here's a close-up ...

... and an even closer look at the leaves ...
I hope you'll check out the challenge blog to see the amazing dimensional die-cut cards from our Designers and fabulous Guest Designer, Arlene.

Adding this to the Take It Make It Challenge - Craft Stampers magazine.  This is my second entry.

OMG...Loll, Stunning die cut leaves sprig over layering with a 2nd layer of shaped leaves. Beautiful dimension. I love your idea of die cutting the sprig with acetate to use as a stenciled background giving even more dimension to your beautiful die cut leaves. Wow... I need to make more stencils with my acetate, which I have plenty of...TFS and always inspiring me, my friend. Hugs...Nancy

A fabulous card Loll and I love the use of the negative of this pretty die cut leafy sprig as a stencil for the leaves in the background, and the shaping of the leaves over the top as a second dimensional layer looks so natural and absolutely beautiful. x

A walk in the woods, this card is total harmony and incredible dimension. Stencilling the background with die cut brings perfect cohesion to this delicate beauty. So much detail and colour nuances. Love this card, xxx

"Stunning" seems to be the word that fits this card best, Loll. And it is. This card deserves to be placed in a frame and hung on a wall in a prominent place. It's so very cool. The soft stenciling, the layers of leaves, and the simplicity of the white have all combined into a stunning card. Love it. Bev

Wow, this card looks like a beautiful display in a show window! Fantastic dimension, colors, and shadow (stencil) effect! I love it! The sponged layered leaf sprig looks real with your styling and coloring/sponging the leaves, and adding rolled glue dots. Using the same die to make your own stencil and adding depth is so clever. Thank you so much for sharing this inspiring card and giving me all the support for this challenge!

Wow, love this card Loll! Love that die! Yes, the stenciled background really gives this card depth with the other die cuts on top. I love how you did your leaves and of course the stem. Those curls up leaves really give the sense of movement as well. I just adore this card! Hugs, Brenda

First of all, I'm sorry I've been so neglectful of your blog, Lolly! I kept going back and back and back and couldn't believe how many amazing posts I've missed! Darn that speeding time! This one turns out to be my most favorite because you made your own stencil and used it to add so much interest to the back of your shadow-boxish aperture and I love how you offset the dual leaves at the tips. Genius!! I think I speak on behalf of all of Blogland that we are glad you run these challenges because if you were a participant you.would.win.every.time!! Hugs, Dolly
