Merry and Joy - Bird Ornament

Hi everyone.  Back with more cards using some of the Penny Black's new release - Merry and Joy.  Today my cards are made with a beautiful die, bird ornament (51-587).

First up is an inlaid design ...
Die-cut the ornament from white card stock.  Kept all the little pieces of the background, embossing them using a very beautiful embossing powder called Fractured Ice(made by Allure).  It would have been easier to just die-cut the ornament and place a whole circle of embossed Fractured Ice in the background, but I really wanted to have the inlaid design, so each of those little pieces was pressed into versamark ink, dipped in the embossing powder, and heated.  It took a little while, but I'm really happy with the results.  It definitely is a unique look.  To finish, stamped a sentiment from a stamp set, (Christmas sentiments 30-504), in black.  Coloured the cap of the ornament with a silver metallic pen and added a black twine bow.

For the second version, I cut off the ornament cap and created a circle die ...
Die-cut the ornament from mixed media paper and removed the top of the ornament to have just a circle image.  Watercoloured the image in neutral tones for the branches, leaves and bird (Pumice Stone, Frayed Burlap, Brushed Corduroy, Walnut Stain), adding dark red for the berries (SU! Real Red; Aged Mahogany) with a dot of white from a paint pen on each one.  Die-cut the card front with a circle die-cut that matched perfectly in size with the ornament.  Inlaid the image into the circle aperture.  Stamped a sentiment from the Christmas Sentiments set (30-504) on the front panel and popped it up with foam onto the card base for extra dimension.

Two fabulous cards - really love them both! I admire your patience with the heat embossing and inlaying of all those tiny pieces on the first card. And your colouring on the second card is beautiful.

Both your die cut bird circles are so gorgeous Loll. Your 1st inlaid image is stunning. I wonder if you could add Press N Seal to your cardstock and then die cut your image with the tiny inlaid pieces still sticking to the Press N Seal. Then heat emboss your pieces. Might work and would be easier, I think. In the meantime, thank you for taking the time to create your gorgeous image:-) Loved how you did a bit of snipping to make your die cut image into a circle and watercoloring your image. Loved your color choices and beauiful card. TFS my friend. Hugs..Nancy

Both versions of this die caught my eye! Love your wonderful coloring and the second one and the first one I just can't believe you embossed all those itty bitty pieces. I don't even know how you held them down without blowing them away. What a wonderful textured look to this.

The inlaid ornament is very special! Love that embossing powder and need to get mine out soon. It made the most beautiful ornament! Love the bird as a cut out circle too. It's always nice when you can get more than one great look from a die. Thanks for the inspiration, my friend!

Both cards are superb using the PB new release, Loll! The first inlaid card looks amazing! It was worth heat-embossing each die-cut piece! You achieved the gorgeous colors, textures and dimension! I wouldn't have guessed you used the same ornament die (without the cap) for the second card. The neutral colors make the red berries effectively pop. Very pretty!

Two very different looks from that same fabulous die cut. Stunning effect with the inlaying card and the patience sure paid off Loll. Fun idea to snip off the ornament cap for card number two, to stretch out the die cut even further and what fabulous colouring. Both cards are beautiful, unique and stunning....Love them both x Loved the post Loll x
