Hi everyone. Quick note ... my current computer is done. :( I have bought a new one, but can't figure out the new system ... everything has changed so much. It will be a while before I'm up and running again. Won't be able to visit your blogs, answer emails, etc. for a while. I'll be back! :)
Today's technique is a basic stamping technique that creates the illusion of depth by simply offsetting the image and stamping a second time without re-inking. This creates a lighter version of the image and makes it appear as if it is in the background.
This can also be used to create movement. For instance, if stamping an animal, you can offset sideways and stamp (without reinking) as many times as possible before the ink is used up. It appears as if the animal is running.
Please check out the details for Generation Stamping technique and link to video on the blog ...
This is the card I recently gave my son, Jeremy, for his birthday. I started by sponging the main panel with Distress Inks (Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Peacock Feathers). I then stamped the Pine Tree (Stampscapes) in Black ink. Without re-inking, I moved the stamp down and to the right, and then stamped a second time my panel. It took me a little while to decide I wanted a third tree. By then the leftover ink on my stamp was dry. So I inked the image again, stamped off on a piece of scrap paper, and then stamped the third tree. This gave me a lighter image. The two side trees look as though they are in the background behind my main (center) tree. :) Easy peasy technique.
I cut the panel to size, added a strip of black card stock with white heat embossed sentiment at the bottom. Then I popped the panel up with foam onto my black card base.

I have created a Christmas card using the generation technique ...
I've used another tree image. This time Pine Row from Stampscapes. The background is sponged with Distress Inks: Salvaged Patina, Salty Ocean, Wilted Violet. The stamp was ink'd with black Memento ink and stamp in the middle, then stamped again to the left and higher up ... and then again, offsetting it from the other stampings. I repeated this two more times to make a forest of trees in the background. :)
I tore a piece of white card stock for my "snowhill", and stamped a retired sentiment from Paper Smooches. I splattered with diluted white acrylic paint for falling snow to finish the card.
Sending this card to the Rudolph Days June Challenge.
Thanks for stopping by!

Love your tall pine tree cards Loll. Your coloring and ink blending makes a great background on both of them. I really like your Christmas card. Have a great weekend.
This is such a great technique for adding depth and impact. Both your cards demonstrate that so well and add in your skill with colour and they are both stunning xx
Two bright and really beautiful cards Loll, and it shows how you can make one tree stamp look like many more, especially on your Christmas card where it looks like a forest. I love the three colours you used behind the trees on the first with a wonderful blend and with great contrast against the black card, and then the vibrant three ink blended blue tones against the white snow on the second. x
Two beautiful cards, Loll. Both designs are lovely and demonstrate the second generation technique perfectly.
Liz xx
Two fabulous cards with generation stamping, Loll! Beautiful vibrant sky in Jeremy's birthday card, and of course I love that intense blue sky in the Christmas one. Wonderful sense of a deep forest! Great snowy splatters too.
Stunning Loll, praying for you in your new computer set up. They're great when you're used to them, but no fun when you're not.
Prayer hugs, Shaz in Oz.x
Two gorgeous pine cards with the second generation technique, Loll - love the ink blending behind on card one & the forest on card two! Thanks for the inspiration!
Pure gorgeousness, Loll!
Two absolutely BEAUTIFUL cards Loll! Trees are such a perfect image to use for the stamping off technique and your backgrounds on both cards just couldn't be any more perfect! Sorry to hear about the computer woes...I have had a new computer since March but am not using it yet because I am so intimidated by all the changes from this dinosaur I am still using! My old computer will not be supported after this October, so I know I have to switch over to the new one soon, but oh the headaches I know will be involved... I'll say some prayers for you too! Hugs. :0)
It takes a while to get used to new operating systems on computers, such a pain :(
Two great cards, I love the colours on the first and your Christmas card makes me think of such a beautiful winters night ♥
These are both fantastic designs, Lolly! I love the way the generation stamping is particularly effective with trees! Good luck with the new computer and try not to stress - even though it is a very stress-inducing thing!🤯Hugs, Dolly
Love both these Loll, the vibrant inks are fab behind the trees, a great example of this technique. Technical problems are so time consuming and stressful, hope you get it all sorted xxx
What beautiful cards Loll, it's been a while and I must revisit the technique.
All the best with coming to terms with the new computer.
Blessings
Maxine
Two very evocative cards Loll. Hope your computer woes are soon rectified. :)
The technique really shows in the second card, Loll, and it looks fabulous. Your inking on both panels is stellar.
Loll, the third tree was the charm - but your forest is absolutely beautiful, too! I love your backgrounds with the silhouettes!

Lovely smooth inking for each of these backgrounds, Lolly! The trees make a lovely forest when stamped this way. I hope you get that new computer figured out soon. Why do they keep changing so much on them? It seems like they could make improvements without changing everything!
Two cards showing the generation stamping with such beautiful backgrounds. I love the forest look and Jeremy's card is so energetic with that stunning sky. I feel your pain with the new computer. Technology changes so fast it's hard to keep up.
Two stunning cards, Loll! Beautiful scenes! Sue N
WOW, the color on these cards is incredible! The generation stamping is such a nice effect. Jeremy's card is striking with the black, and the entire forested hillside makes the most gorgeous Christmas card. I feel for you with the computer woes. I recently had to replace my laptop and that was pretty easy, but I depend heavily on the desktop and it's on its last legs. Good luck with everything!
Your generational stamping is wonderful, and your backgrounds add so much beauty too! These are two terrific cards, Loll, and showcase the technique well
Loving all of the pine silhouettes and the wonderful backgrounds you've given them! Two marvelous makes, Loll. New technology can be tough, Why can't they just make things operate the same way!!!
I had already forgotten about this technique, and it is worth attention. I love both cards, but the second card is a real work of art. I love the forest you created, it looks mysterious and very naturalistic. Thank you for such an amazing inspiration.
I am sorry that you are having problems with your computer. I will be eagerly awaiting your return.
xx
What beautiful backgrounds you created for both of your cards Loll! and the off set stampings of your trees look wonderful on both! Such a different impact with the bright colors on the first and the snowy dark sky on the 2nd! Hope you get your computer up and running soon - what a pain computers are! Julia xx
What a wonderful technique, that looks so artistic. Love both cards. Good Luck with your computer, things have changed, but I'm sure once you are used to it, things will feel normal again. x
Love this technique, especially with SU inks. Gorgeous cards.
Oh My...Thank you for sharing your new beautiful Christmas cards, Lolly :-) Both cards are so perfect for the Holidays:-) It is always difficult to replace older computers. Love and Hugs, Nancy
