February CAS Mix Up Reminder

Hi everyone.  Back with a reminder for the February CAS Mix Up Challenge, hosted by Susan.

For my launch card on the 1st, I used a technique to create this look using black card stock, gold heat embossing, and Finetec Metallic Pearl paints.

This time I'm using a different technique (one of the original ways to create Faux Cloisonne), which uses magazines, catalogues or any other printed medium on glossy paper.  The important part of the technique is to create a shiny, metallic, glossy look using glossy images with lots of metallic heat embossing.  Stamps with intricate designs work best with magazine images.

The card above uses a couple of pages from an old calendar that I was going to recycle from last year.  The lower leaf is stamped and heat embossed over a sunset with a small bit of yellow and orange from the sun, but mostly a deep blue sky.  The top leaf is stamped over an Autumn tree where the leaves are turning colour ... mostly yellow with a little orange.  You would never have guessed what the original photos are when you look at the leaves. :)

Coral Peonies

Hi everyone.  Not sure if peonies come in coral, but that's the great thing about making our own ... freedom to choose whatever colours you want.

I had three things on my mind when making this card.  First, I wanted to join in the Poppy Stamps challenge this month which is CAS.  Then I wanted to use navy and one other colour for The Flower Challenge.  I also needed a sympathy card and when I was figuring out the sentiment for this card, it just worked.  I rarely use navy on my cards so thanks to TFC for taking me outside my colour box!

   

Masked off the bottom and side of my card front and sponged with Chipped Sapphire.  Placed a stencil over top and used a baby wipe to remove some of the colour, leaving a subtle design for my background.  Stamped and heat embossed the peonies in liquid platinum, watercoloured with distress inks, and die-cut using a matching die to my image.  Stamped the sentiment and popped up the flower for added dimension.  This was a quick and easy CAS card to make! :)

CAS Stencil May Challenge

Hi everyone.  Today is the start of the last CAS Stencil challenge as things are changing with CAS Challenges.  Starting next month, CAS Mix Up is changing it's challenges to include mixed media along with stencil and watercolour.  More details will be in June's CAS Mix Up post.  We hope you'll come play along!

This technique is out of my comfort zone, but it's something I'm keen to learn.  I had lots of fun making my stenciled panel, but I definitely need lots of practice. :)

I started with a stencil monoprint from my stash, done with Lindy's magical powders and a Mini Tiny Circles stencil from TCW (one of my most used stencils!).  Placed a second stencil overtop and sponged with gold ink.  Mounted my panel behind a card front die-cut with a stitched square (gift from my sweet friend, Bonnie).  Added a white die-cut flower and gold stamped sentiment to finish.
